I was looking through the forums and didn't really see any threads on JRPG CE's. I was thinking it would be awesome if we could create a list of the ones that were released in NA/EU since these CE's are what really made me want to start collecting. Would anyone be interested in something like this?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum also. Wasn't sure if it was cool to post this topic here.

Like Atelier series, Tales series? I think it is more of a general collecting topic as to what are the JRPG titles released in the west.

I'm quite interested as well but I get my information of JRPG western releases somewhere else. The power of reading 3 different news website for 3 region is awesome :P

I'd be interested in a thread like that. No time to read 3 websites like Letrico :p so a thread here would be awesome. There seem to be more and more with proper CEs too!

Yeah like Tales, Atelier, Time and Eternity, etc. I guess stuff released by NIS, Atlus and stuff. And it doesn't even have to be on just consoles, it could be handhelds as well. What 3 websites do you use for all your western releases?

Hana yeah same! We'll probably have to go to different websites just to get the info for the releases :(. I'll start posting pics and stuff for the previously released CE's.

For random news I read Kotaku, JRPG news siliconera and a mainstream news with joystiq. Covered pretty much everything so far. Local releases I just lookout for EBgames AU announcement and stalk their website lol

Oh that's right! I love Xseed games. I'm trying to think of other publishers too.

UTV Ignition Entertainment is one too to an much much smaller extent. No CE tho.

There honestly aren't that many Western released JRPG special editions. It wouldn't be all that hard to compile a list of them all. Hell, I have the vast majority of them in my collection, so it would just take some time looking through my spread sheets. lol

Really? It always feels like there's a lot of them, but since I don't own many of them, that's probably why it feels like a lot. I think that what I'd do is compile a list and then continually update it for easy access. Id you'd like to provide a list, I'd be very grateful :D :D

Maybe there are a fair few of them. A good chunk of them are definitely on PSP.

r3galbum

Yeah and some of em through PS1 like Lunar

Zaku77
02-17-2014, 12:51 AM
There is Lunar and Lunar 2, Arc the Lad, and that's pretty much all I can think of for PS1. (I'm not counting Ogre Battle, because I think there is only a "Limited Edition", and it just says it on the front insert is all.

Hmm yeah. I thinks the only ogre battle that actually got a LE was Tactics Ogre for the PSP.

I think I'm actually going to take the time to make a list up over the next few days. I may miss something here or there, but it should be mostly complete.

That would be sick. I'd love to see the list that you have. You must have a lot of CEs

Oh so many lol. I can think of a few off of the top of my head that I don't own from the upcooming list, but there are really only a few of them.

Well, here it is. I 'think' this has everything in it, but feel free to let me know if I missed something. I find this style of formatting to be clean and efficient, so hopefully it will make sense to all of you, too.

I cant call lunar star games or arcthe lad really ces as they were technically only released that way originally. They are special how ever as sense there release the games have been separated from there contents. Its kind of like a few Japanese ps3 games I have only come with ce based contents but that was the only way said game was really sold.

I thought it was worth adding because the full game package (case/manual/discs) could be removed and easily sold separately. But that is a more nebulous situation, for sure.

I'm loving that list! It's very clean and organized. I'll start looking through to gather photos so that people can take a look at all of them. Thank you very much zaku :notworthy::notworthy:

Hm that is true. I guess to me collector is any kind of huge package that people would love to buy complete in box, or to complete their own collection of that game in terms of some items that come with the game.

No problem! If you want to add links to photos of the games, then I could add you to the editing list. We could make a new column for photo links. I could take pictures of 90% of those, but that is just a little more hassle than I am willing to go through :3. lol

I'd be totally down if it's okay with you. Hahaha no I would never make you do that :P. I feel like taking pictures and then uploading them is way too much work lmao.

I will compare with what I have at home when I get a chance. What I can tell...

Atelier Annie Premium Box (DS)
Some Disagaea 3 sets (PS3) http://www.qj.net/qjnet/playstation-3/disgaea-3-nis-readies-three-pre-order-bundles-for-north-america.html
Magna Carta 2 (360, Korean)
Prinny Can I Really Be the Hero (PSP) http://collectorsedition.org/game-db/prinny-can-i-really-be-the-hero-ultra-dessert-set-psp-1
Trinity Universe (PS3) can't recall if this was game+artbook or actual CE
Cross Edge (PS3) rosenqueen poster boy set

See, this comes down to a matter of semantics. What 'is' a CE? I only consider something a CE--or anything similar or related--if it is an actual 'edition' of a game. A lot of what was listed there are pre-order bonuses that are not contained within a game. They are not an edition; they don't change the actual game package itself. There are myriad other games that have had pre-order bonuses, but they just don't belong in something like this (Atelier Meruru and its artbook, Suikoden Tierkreis and its soundtrack, Eternal Poison and its artbook, etc). That would also go for Cross Edge and the Poster Boy set.

Prinny is an action platformer, not an RPG--regardless of the fact that it's based off of an RPG. I purposely left off Magna Carta 2 because this list is focused on ENglish releases. If we want to look at all the Asian releases for these games, then that would be an enormous amount of extras added to it. That would be a good separate list in-and-of-itself.

As for Annie, that is a bit of a nebulous situation. The Premium Figure Set is just the Japanese CE--like literally even the same box--with a US copy of the game plopped into it. I know NISA released it here, but it's still basically just the Japanese one. I could go ahead and add that, though, as that's a hard call to make.

That is like the DJMAX Technika Tune Collectors Edition. They basically use the exact same thing as the Japanese/Asian CE and change the game. Their sales rep got flamed by me to admit it was the same edition and swapped game.

Yeah, it just seems ridiculously lazy. I mean, if that's how we're doing CEs nowadays, then I have like 200+ Japanese ones that I need to go buy and slide my English games in to. It's just stupid. I think they'd be better off not doing anything rather than doing that.
