** Secret Santa Sign-Up Thread! ** [Archive]

Same as every year, we will be running Secret Santa this year! I've run it every year, bar when I've been AWOL from the forum, but thanks to the lovely Mags, the forum tradition went on! :beer:

So, if you're interested in Secret Santa this year, sign up below. Rules as usual, gift limit to be officially decided, but it's usually of a value of around 15GBP (in your own currency) plus shipping costs.

I'd like to make it that everyone ships everywhere, so that it makes it easier to draw who is doing who, but if you absolutely would not like to ship outside of your own country/continent, then let me know and I'll do my best to accommodate :)

Check last posting dates for the location you're sending to, and then just make sure to get it out before then ;)

Fairly certain she meant check with your local post office to get a time frame from them on wheen the last date you can ship your gift out and have it arrive in time for Christmas.

Sure, if they want to gift something to each other, they are welcome to arrange that between themselves :) However, we are definitely getting close to Christmas, so they'd need to double check first of all that they have enough time to get each other's gifts purchased and sent :D x

:woohoo: I got my Secret Santa gift in yesterday! Glad I checked on the back loft before it started raining too! Great way to brighten up the less-than-stellar week we've been having... but now I've got to wait until Christmas to open it :(

I got the Mass Effect soundtrack (been wanting one for ages) and an inflatable omniblade, me and my nephew had fun with that today :D

Yeah, had the same trouble with mine. Sometimes they'll let you get away with doing S. Santa or something like that, but you usually have to do both your name and secret santa or just your name. And almost always the customs form has to match what you put on your box.

There are certainly ways around both, but its not so much getting it OUT of the US that's the problem, but NOT having the receiving customs agency have more reasons to open up your carefully wrapped packages.
Makes things a little more difficult for those of us who had to send things overseas for sure though.

Also, I opened mine and there were so many different things! :swoon: I already ate some of the food stuff, but will post a picture later (and also finally reveal that "last CE you got" box etc.)

If I'm not mistaken this was the EU pre-order steelbook ? :scratch:
Anyway, tried to find that one the weeks before christmas (glad I didn't buy one ^^).
I'm super happy with it, because what could possibly be better than a nice steelie. :drool:

Finally got my gift today!

Apparently it's been at the post office since Christmas, they just never told me they had it to come get it. I got notification card in my mailbox yesterday telling me to pick up a box. It said it was the 3rd and final notification before they were going to send it back. Whatever!

Question to santas from USA. When you send items, do you send them as a gift? I got to pay parcel fees for my SS gift... After almost 5 months...So im curious.
Im pissed of because my post office didnt inform me about fees when they delivered box, just now out of nowhere.

Sounds like a import VAT charge. I think because of the abuse of gifts, the UK now for example imposes a threshold on the 'value' of the gifts/imports on which import VAT + duty is charged. Rules should be consistent within the EU as I think this is to tackle cheap imports/competition from outside the EU and encourage local trade or local expensive ripoff prices =p

Bottom line is to ensure the value reported is low as nowadays they tend to look at the 'value' and disregard the fact that it's a gift, you may want to check on the threshold for when this kicks in for Poland.

I usually do send it as a gift, especially for Secret Santas. It's unfortunate though if it ends up charging someone VAT or a similar import duty. Typically I'd report them as the $25 or whatever we deemed the appropriate "gift max" in the secret santa though so no one is surprised suddenly and hit with an unexpected (and high) duty bill for a gift that they knew nothing about. That's just me though :shrug: Also, thanks for bumping this thread -- I REALLY need to take and post some pictures of my Secret Santa gifts this year, Mrs.Clause did such a fantastic job that I feel bad I'm not publicly showing my appreciation and gratitude! I'll definitely be posting them sometime before the NEXT Secret Santa though, at least I can stick to THAT commitment timeline! :thumb:
