View Full Version : I'm the worst kind of collector...

You'll all hate me for it...

I have no idea what I have stashed where, I'm like a headless chicken with no direction - and I like cheap toot. :rotf:

So last night I was looking for my walking dead comics to lend to a mate at work and I found one of my mini boxes of toot...I have no idea I still had these bits - and to be frank I'd forgotten I'd bought some of them lol

AC USB bracelet & ring, Dead Souls USB bullet & tatoo, Mario Galaxy coin, Max Payne bullet pen (now I remember the hassle getting that after the whole zavvi fiasco), some PS3 s/bs that I should sell on...and probably a couple other bits I already forgot again

So yeah, I have several of these dotted around the house/loft/etc I have the dead island suitcase full of dead island toot, the explorer edition suitcase full of PS3 steelbooks (picture on this forum somewhere)...a few figurines dotted about...it's chaos.

Then, the worst crime is I'll break it up - oh yeah, bring on the hate! I'll get an edition and split that stuff up...I'll keep what I want and sell what I don't. I have the 20th anniversary PS4 - and I'm using it - but only the console, the controller and camera stayed in the box to keep them mint (I even bought the 20th anniversary DS4 and headset so I can play with the complete set lol)! Having said all that, I guess I'm the kind of collector you should love - one day someone might want that AC USB bracelet to complete a collection...also my splitting editions up means the guys who keep theirs together are going to benefit as complete sets become more rare  More recently I started buying special editions (Uncharted Collection and when it comes out Uncharted 4 SE) where I will sell the disk but keep the rest (because I will buy the game digitally!)

Anyway, odd rant - and likely a thread thread of little interest but throwing it out there. It's extra off because I'm really anal about stuff, I mean, I won't let my kids use my 20th anniversary DS4 or headset - I have a zavvi MGS HD collection which is completely mint and sealed in perfect condition, in bubble wrap and boxed up (!)...go figure!? (FTR I do have a MGS HD I opened so I could have the t-shirt/steelbook and artbook in hand :haha:)

So, what about you guys and gals? I know some of you buy all editions/versions and never break a seal - personally I think that's sacrilege, these things are made to be enjoyed (but each to their own)...I can appreciate why you'd do that :ok:

I agree that things are made to be enjoyed but I keep some of my stuff sealed...

Haha, I don't split editions, but I am certainly like a headless chicken when it comes to my collection.

Since we moved into this house in May, we've had a much bigger room for the collection (the bedroom, but it's waaay bigger than in the last house). Anyway, when everything was finally moved in, it looked like there was plenty of space for everything (at the time). Everything just got kinda placed anywhere on the shelves to start with, with the intention that it would be sorted out bit by bit. So decided to start unboxing things and having them out on display, and putting the boxes in our big storage cupboard, thinking that would give us more room. Well, that didn't account for all the new things coming in, so the floor has been taken over once again and I don't really know where anything is.

I mean, if you ask for a particular edition, I can say where in the room it's likely to be (for instance, most Nintendo things are together on one big set of shelves, etc) but with the amount that's on the floor now too, I can barely get into some of the shelves :haha:

I also don't keep things sealed. Sure there's some things that are still sealed, mainly due to not getting round to opening them yet (and I mean, some of these things are 3-4 years old haha, but keep getting pushed further into the backlog) but it's all made to be enjoyed and opened, so that's what I do :D xx

Pretty much the same as Vhal on this one, but maybe with a little less organization. I've started using my Sort-It App more though so I can at least have a record (generally) of what I have and don't have -- toys/merchandise/swag is where I get lost though. Luckily those are usually a little easier to remember if you have them or not.

Maybe after the next relocation I'll get a chance to open up things and display them properly.

yeah, half the problem is re-buying stuff sometimes. Talking of lack of organisation - I have a loft full (litterally) of toot. Now, bear in mind I'm a family man, so loads of nostalgic stuff running through my life, my wife's life and of course some of the kids bits we can't bin. Now, mix in a load of retro toot I picked up along the way (my first family console as a kid was and intellivision so I have a boxed one of those with several games) along with basically me trying to buy random other toot from my childhood (They're Off (https://boardgamegeek.com/images/boardgame/2041/theyre-post)) and stuff I collected along the way (Rocky Horror vinyl anniversary box set (http://www.amazon.co.uk/3894-The-contains-Participation-Soundtrack-Featuring/dp/B00EDTANQU) and Battlecars (https://boardgamegeek.com/images/boardgame/2368/battlecars)).

I have loads of stuff which I never get round to sorting...I start it but never finish :lmao:

I always open everything I buy as I want to display and enjoy the contents. I occasionally will sell parts if they are super valuable and I don't care for them much (like the two decks of Gwent cards that came with the Xbox One collector's edition of The Witcher 3; the price I got for them basically paid for the CE).
