Hello folks,
For a while I have been annoyed with the fact that you can not take notes on eBay items without adding them to the watchlist. Especially as a steelbook collector, I spend a good amount of time investigating the pictures and looking for any flows. And given how low quality some of the pictures sellers use are, we all know how time consuming this can be. When I see a flaw on the item I want, I usually pass on it.
However sometimes, hunting down an item we want can take months, waiting for just the right copy. I frequently find myself going back to the same item over and over again and wasting time.
Yesterday was a holiday here so I took some time in the morning to write a quick plugin to manage my notes. It allows you to save your notes and categorize the item in 3 intuitive categories. The plug-in works across regional ebay sites. So if you see the same item on ebay.com and then ebay.de, your notes will appear in both. It also keeps the notes when the item is relisted.
There are current 3 limitations:
If the seller creates an entirely new listing for the same item with a different title, the plug-in can't detect it. If the title stays the same, it's fine.
You can't edit the notes at the moment (will add this eventually)
The plugin is entirely offline. Meaning all of your notes are stored in the browser. If you clear your browser's storage you will lose the notes. However, you can download the notes as a file and then use that file to restore everything, if you want to keep a back up. I could save the notes to the cloud but it comes with a lot of privacy implications that I don't want to deal with at the moment. Maybe in the future....
I have submitted the plug-in for review. You should be able to install it from the chrome store once it passes.
If you don't want to wait the entire code is here (https://github.com/sinanspd/ce.org-notes). You can just install it yourself.
Thanks to twistedsymphony for allowing me to use the logo!
