See the Nominations for the Spike TV video game awards made me start thinking... we should hold our own awards for the best Collector's Editions.

Ideas for categories:
-Collector's Edition of the Year
-Best Packaging for a CE
-Best Bonus Item included with a CE
-Best Console CE
-Best Portable CE
-Best CE for a new franchise
-Most Surprising CE Release
-Most Disappointing CE Release

---------
I'm thinking 2010 should be games released in Dec 2009 through Nov 2010, then we can announce the winners in early December

Comment if you have ideas for categories, if you have ideas for nominees etc.

I love this idea.

CE most likely to increase in value/rarity

I'll try to think of more later.

That reminds me; maybe we can create a thread projecting the rarity/future value of upcoming collectors editions. That would be of great help to everyone, in my opinion. I can only purchase so many CE's a year, and I would hate to miss out on another gem like the Demon's Souls CE. I think it would be in everyone's interest to know which CE's need to be purchased immediately.

Great idea. Will this split up between region?

I'd rather not... I think it will have more meaning if we've got US CEs competing against UK CEs, etc.

Nice idea. Will there be a poll where we'd vote or are we just gonna bicker amongst ourselves until everyone gives up and grudgingly accepts [insert game name] as the winner?

I nominate the StarCraft II CE for best packaging.

True. Certain CE looks better on other region.

I nominate the StarCraft II CE for best packaging.

I'll wait until WOW expansion before I would consider Starcraft II CE. :spiteful:

Not sure about nominees but these are my choices.

-Collector's Edition of the Year

Demon Souls Black Phantom Edition - Contained everything the NTSC deluxe edition had plus the art book and soundtrack all in a very nice red and black casing. Also at a price of less than £38 compared to other releases for £39.99 just for the normal game. It helped that they decided to release this unique limited edition 2 months before the normal version of game, can't beat that.

Bayonetta Climax Edition AUS version - Unlike the Euro PAL version, the AUS release came with a Fair Replica Gun included in a larger very tidy looking box. As well as a copy of the Climax edition content from the Euro PAL region, It’s also quite rare now.

Dead rising 2 High Stakes Edition - Included custom Casino playing chips and playing cards all incased in a metal holding case. For those in the USA it was also reasonably priced.

Starcraft 2 Collector's Edition - With the exception of Castlevania Lord of Shadow PAL Collector’s edition, it’s the only release with some real weight to it. The sheer amount of content in this Collector's edition is amazing and unheard of. I also agree with Mandingo that the packaging was first rate.

Best Packaging for a CE

Starcraft 2 Collector's edition

God of War 3 Ultimate/Trilogy edition - The Pandora Box was certainly unique, having everything included in the gold box was a nice touch. Haven't seen too many like this.

Gran Turismo 5 Signature Edition - Judging by the unboxing video, everything is neatly packaged with foam complete with a full metal case.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Limited Edition Tin - Lovely art work on a shiny metal tin made this one of the standout edition on the Wii. The fact that it was free with just pre-ordering it makes this edition even better.

Monster Hunter Tri Hunter Edition - As far as I know one of the few releases that has angles and shapes, used to make it look like a treasure chest. The art work was also first rate.

Fable 3 Collector's edition - Another unique shaped Collector's edition, the book concepts continues on the inside with a slide out draw hiding the art book and the inclusion of velvet added a luxury feel to it.

-Best Bonus Item included with a CE

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Limited Edition Tin

Enslaved Odyssey to the West talent pack - Those that pre-ordered this edition from the UK retailer HMV got CD, art book and comic all cased together in a lovely complete box.

Sonic Colours - Sonic Hat Pre-orders of the game came with a blue sonic hat with his punk style hair.

Red Steel 2 Pre-order Edition - came with a art book, DLC code, Bullet with custom logo and unique case to hold everything.

-Best Console CE

Demon Souls Black Phantom Edition
Bayonetta Climax Edition AUS version

-Best Portable CE

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker Collector's Edition - Big box with large Art book. - also one of the few portable Collector's edition to be sold out before launch. Not even final fantasy can claim that.

Dj Max portable 3 Limited Edition - Only 1000 units of this was made, the whole package it well thought out and of high quality. The detail is also high with the label on the disc even unique.

Best CE for a new franchise

Demon Souls Black Phantom Edition
Alan Wake Collector's Edition - What happen to this game, 5 years in the making, Collector’s edition same price as the normal edition. Failed to sell well except for the Collector's edition, which sold more copies than the normal version. Included a CD, art book and other items in a Book style slip cover.

-Most Surprising CE Release

Castlevania Lord of the Shadow PAL Collector's Edition, no one knew what to expect from this release due to manufacturing problems. There were even times when everyone though it would never come out. Well it did and the mask was actually metal and very heavy and not resin or cheap plastic. I don't know about anyone else but I was shocked.

Most Disappointing CE Release

There's a whole thread on this subject. starwars force unleashed 2 Editions was really poorly made and left everyone thinking there was a mistake in production.

Kane and Lynch 2 Limited edition - Basically a Slip cover with DLC code.

There was so many Collector's edition releases that I'm sure I missed some good ones, hopefully when others nominate their choices it will jog my memory.:rotf:
