When Creative Assembly's Total War: Shogun 2 hits North American shelves next year, you'll have a few choices.
You can get the regular edition of the game, which just comes with Shogun 2, and then everyone will laugh at you because you're cheap and boring. Or you can pick up the fancier "Limited Edition" which will get you some extras, like the playable Hattori Clan faction, a "Nagashino" scenario, a set of armor for your online avatar, and some starting XP to spend on your online character.
It's out March 15, so that gives you a few months to make your decision. Or you can make a snap judgement and tell us in the comments.

Ok there has been some development and changes to the PAL release, not sure if these apply to NTSC regions aswell.
First there is the normal version of the game.
Second there is a limited edition which includes:
Shogun 2: Total War - Limited Edition Includes:
Exclusive ninja clan - The Hattori clan are masters of the Iga-ryu ninjutsu - a unique collection of martial skills and guerrilla techniques. This additional in-game faction is only available in the Limited Edition and includes the most powerful battlefield ninja units
Extra historical scenario - The Battle of Nagashino saw an alliance between the Oda and Tokugawa clans clashing against the legendary Takeda clan in 1575. Takeda was ultimately defeated but, as in all Total War battles, victory lies in your hands and by playing one of these three factions you can repeat history... or even rewrite it!
Special armour for your avatar - This complete set of armour will make your General's avatar stand out on the battlefield and will reward you with the Bad Omen retainer that affects morale to enemy ashigaru (foot soldier) units, giving you a competitive advantage online.
Bank account of XP for your avatar - Only the Limited Edition owners will be able to start their General's avatar at a higher level, with instant access to one upgrade point to spend on special skills or traits
Then there is the Collector's edition which gets everything from the Limited edition plus:
Shogun 2: Total War - Collector's Edition Includes:
A beautiful replica bamboo box containing a Shogun 2 art book and a detailed figurine of Takeda Shingen, one of Japan’s greatest Generals. All of this as well as the Limited Edition content:

I agree, these have completely taken me by surprise, didn't think the game that huge of appeal so expected a little or reduce collector's edition.
I want the limited Chess Edition but the price is an issue for me, may decide to wait and hope they don't sell out and instead reduce in price.
