This one seems to be gone under the radar, but Amazon.co.uk have listed Emily The Strange Limited Edition. It's been listed under PQube who are the UK Publisher for games such as Blazblue and the recent Guility Gear XX.
In terms of details all there is at the moment is a picture, however it seems to include the following:
Branded T-Shirt ( images looks to indicate it's a female T-Shirt)
Branded Key Ring
Emily the Strange: dark Times novel
Emily the Rose Poster
Standard copy of the game ( NDS)
The price is quite steep at £89.99 and will be released on the 10th June 2011. It's not known at the moment if the contents will be in a single box or individual items similar to Balazble Continuum Shift Fan Edition.
A request for more information has been made from Pqube and will update as it comes available.
You can Pre-order it here: Amazon UK PQube Emily the Strange Limited Edition (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Emily-Strange-Limited-Nintendo-DS/dp/B004RT4FJM/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt)

Update: 09 - May -2011 13:10 GMT
I receive an e-mail back from Pcube, this is what they say.
"The Limited Edition will have a reporters notepad ? image attached. I will get a press released sorted this week and include you in the mail out.
There will also be a Special Collector?s Edition ? contents to be confirmed, but again, I will make sure you are aware of the package as soon as it is confirmed."

£90??? It better be numbered.
Really? £90 for a DS CE? Outrageous! I agree, it had better be numbered and extremely limited, plus also come in special packaging for that price!
Which leads me to wonder - Will this come all specially packaged in a unique box, or is this just related merchandise which will be bundled into a shipping box alongside the standard game?
I don't quite understand where they get the £89.99 from, seeing as the hardback Dark Times book can be purchased separately from amazon for only £5.49:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Emily-Strange-Times-Rob-Reger/dp/0007365918/ref=pd_sim_sbs_vg_h__2
The game itself is only £17.99:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Emily-Strange-Nintendo-DS-DSi/dp/B004JMZPN2/ref=pd_sim_sbs_vg_h__1
Game + Book = £23.48
So you're telling me that a T shirt, keychain, and poster are worth £66.51 between them? Like fuck they are!

In my opinion, this set is at least £40-£45 too expensive for what is actually included, and the price of certain items separately.
Plus it is still unsure whether this is a legit CE or whether these are just related items bundled together with the game like that BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Fan Edition

I agree with Gemini on this one, the price is way out. I haven't heard anything from Kevin yet, but it's early in the morning.

Ok, so a notepad. That still makes this at least £40 shy by my calculations, so whatever else is included it had better be justified by the extra cost
Also, I don't think it's right that Amazon should be able to list items like this so early that they don't even have the full details of what's included - It puts potential customers off. If i'd spotted that and didn't know there were more items still to come, I wouldn't bother checking it again
Could you also ask Pqube if we're also able to order directly, or do we have to order from Amazon? I would also like to know whether this comes in some kind of a presentation box as well...
gurpswoo1
05-10-2011, 10:25 AM
No problem, I have already requested information about the packaging, all will be revealed in the press release they are making for us this week.
I will ask if we can order direct, forgot about that.

For £90, I would expect something very fantastic, and also expect this to be extremely limited and numbered as well! If this is going to just be a load of merch which can be bought cheaper separately, then I think I might pass, so it'll have to include something unique to this CE in order to get me to bite
As I previously pointed out, the game and novel can be bought for a reasonable price separately, and the rest of the items announced so far equal small change, so if they expect us to pay £90 for a DS CE, they need to really be adding something exceptional to this package to make it worth the effort and cost

Andy
Gemini-Phoenix
05-25-2011, 05:29 PM
Can't say fairer than that!
Although this does beg the question: How relevant are the numbers to a collector? Are low numbers important, or would you equally prefer 200 to 1? Any takers for #69? Lol! ;)
That said, I am thinking I would actually like #200. Is this at all possible, Andy? After all, it's only a number, and we're still all lucky enough to have one of a very limited run, but i'm really feeling #200 seems like a good number considering Gurps has #1
Going to Tweet about this CE right now! :D
On a side note... A shame that i've already just passed my 100 DS game milestone, as this would have been a nice one to have gotten for my 100th, but it's still a nice CE to have considering there aren't all that many DS CE's in total!

It all depends what your real name is Gemini - if you initials are DW then your in luck, however if your initials are RG then it's down to weather DW want's 200!
With regards to the question "how relevant are numbers" - for me they aren't, however, a few of you requested them (and you are the people pre ordering them) so I got them on for you - ask you and shall receive (within reason...)

Fantastic, I really appreciate all the effort you have made keeping us informed.:thankyou:
How relevant are the numbers to a collector? Are low numbers important,
I would say 1 to 10 are the ones in most demand, very very happy I got number 1.
Also like Gemini said, after number 10, number 100, 200 and 99 are the next in line. unless of course you are from the far east where the number 88 is the one you want. even more so than 1.
AndyPQube

It was more of a general thinking out aloud question, as I know some collectors do seem to prefer low numbers for some reason. For me, any number is equal to any other, although it is awfully nice of you to grant us the privilege of being able to pick & choose as an incentive for pre-ordering straight away. For that I (we) are very grateful for your efforts!

I would say it's all down to personal preference. Maybe some people believe a lower number would be more in demand than another, especially #1. Maybe some believe a lower number means it will be more valuable? Personally, I don't intend to ever sell mine, so it really makes no difference to me whether I get a low number or high number - At the end of the day, they're still limited to 1 of 200
But like you say, some people have a personal attachment to certain numbers. For example, someone who suffers from triskaidekaphobia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triskaidekaphobia) may specifically want to avoid a certain number, whereas someone else may prefer a number they feel brings them luck
EDIT: Thanks guys. I am happy with #200. Thanks to Andy too for making it happen!

I've had the same question raised a few times, how would you guys prefer it?
I would prefer it written as xxx/200, where sub-100 numbers are displayed like 003 or 092
Will the numbering be displayed on the actual box, or as a certificate of authenticity inside? If the former, then I would prefer if the numbering were somehow printed, rather than written in Biro. Or if it is written in Biro on the box, then a printed certificate / card inside would be nice in order to authenticate the edition
You also mentioned the packaging further up the thread - Will this be unique packaging especially for this edition? I am anticipating a glorious glossy red & black box with Emily The Strange artwork on the side!
PS. I'm loving that background on the http://www.emily-game.co.uk (http://www.emily-game.co.uk/) website! This would also make excellent artwork for the packaging of the CE! ;)

I will also add that this is so far becoming one of my favourite CE of 2011 already, mainly due to the fact that we are actually having some minimal participation in creating it! I am actually looking forward to adding this to my collection more than whatever the Modern Warfare 3 CE will be, or Gears Of War 3, or any of thse other triple A titles!
So far, all these Pqube Fan Editions keep getting better and better! I can't wait for the third BlazBlue game! I only wish all coanies would come on here and participate *Cough* EA. THQ. Warner Bros. *Cough*

It not fair, I still haven't got mine. You and Gemini already have yours. I really hate the postage service in my area.

Thanks for those amazing pictures Andy!
I actually received mine yesterday (Wednesday 8th June 2011), and I am very impressed with it! #200 as promised! :cpatch::woohoo:
Very good quality CE, with a lot of thought and effort put in, so kudos to Andy and his team for producing a very nice package for us collectors! I cannot praise you enough for all you have done in the last few weeks, and this is most definitely going to be cherished for a long time to come!
Your efforts will always be remembered amongst the collector community! I only wish more publishers would make the same effort to communicate with their target demographic *Cough* EA *Cough*

O_O, How small of a possibility, LOL.
I was thinking for future games, I'm not sure what you will be publishing in the future.

I wouldn't want to get anybody's hopes up but there are talks about it - we just need to confirm a few things etc.
For future games we could do one, what kind of price point would you guys be looking at? would an auction be of interest or would it be better as a higher priced 1st come first served deal?
My upcoming titles are Just Sing 2 and Virtual Villagers and we have about 25+ classic PC game titles (including titles such as SpellForce, The Guild, Gothic and Painkiller), would any of those titles strike you guys as "i'd love a special collector's edition of that!" - it might even be the case we ONLY do a one off special edition for some titles? (for example no collector's editions for VV or JS2 are in the pipeline as yet).

I would say the acceptable price point in dependant on the content of the edition, rarity and platform.
Traditionally is has been difficult to justify a very high priced DS collector's edition unless it had something very special or rare. But for a console especially PS3 and Xbox, it is more acceptable. I personally think the price of Emily is perfect and if it was for console I would be happy to pay £10-£15 max. (i.e £65-£70. Max) But then again if it included some very good content I wouldn't mind paying more.
As for future game, I think a Collector's Edition for Just Sing 2 may not be best choice. I have never heard of Virtual Villagers for except for the Iphone so don't know about that one either.
I am interested in the Gothic series, would love to see a series (1-4) Collector's Edition, is that a possibility, although as I understand it Gothic 4 was no part of the same series.
I also know Pqube published Gothic 4 for Xbox in the UK, will you be doing the same for some of the other Topware titles, or maybe even Risen 2 which is looking very nice.

I know there will be one for Guilty Gear (Brian is the product manager for that one, I think you may have his details, if not drop me an email and I will get him in touch with you).
Thanks for the breakdown, I think VV and JS2 will release as standard edition only then
Gothic is under my range so I will look into doing something for that, Gothic Universe has all of the titles (if I'm not mistaken), how about a Collector's Edition for that?

Hmm, I would think most people who visit this site are primarily console collectors, although we do have a few PC collectors here. Personally, PC collecting is a waste of time as PC games devalue so quickly, and CE's aren't exempt from that, opposed to console games which appreciate in value and are tied to that era of gaming
Those titles you mentioned don't really strike me as the kind we would be interested in having a CE for. After all, the likes of EA, Ubisoft, Activision, and THQ already pump out enough trashy CE's for sub-par games, and I personally find myself buying the simply because they're a CE, and not because I was actually interested in the game
For me, the type of game worthy of a special CE would be the niche cult favourites. Japanese fighters and RPG's are a good example of the sort of games which are worthy. The type of games which stand out as iconic, and will be remembered in the future for their loyal fan-base

Thank you for your opinion and I agree with you.
Luckily, we do have a good stream of Niche and Japanese fighters (although I'm not always responsible for them myself), for example BlazBlue is something we work with a lot, I guess that would fall into that category?

Most definitely! That's the sort of game we would like to see more CE's for!

That is definitely a series which I consider worthy of the CE treatment, regardless of the platform (PlayStation, Xbox, or PC). This is the kind of game PC gamers would be willing to pay OTT for content such as cloth maps, soundtrack, artwork, commemorative coins, and other unique items related to the game which are unique only to that edition. You just have to look towards the World Of Warcraft CE's or Starcraft 2 CE to see the kind of things PC collectors expect
As for pricing - I agree with Gurps above. I approved of the Emily The Strange price, and felt it was fair, especially considering that it was very limited and also numbered. Even the Amazon price is fair, but I don't think I would want to pay more than that for a DS game. I think generally speaking, between £49.99-£79.99 is average price for CE's, provided the contents are worth the difference in price. If they're unique bonuses, then all the better!
A few points we regularly discuss here on CE.O regarding CE's are:
1) Are the contents unique to this edition?
If the contents can only be obtained in the CE, then that is always a plus selling point. If it's just a bunch of merch which can be bought separately, then that's not so appealing
2) Is it limited & numbered?
As you have probably noticed by now, we most certainly jump on anything which we can determine a finite number of editions, and prefer if they are numbered and come with a certificate of authenticity
3) Unique packaging
A lot of exceptional CE's in the last few years have been ruined by the fact that they include the regular retail copy of the game (Eg, Bioshock 2 CE). It feels as if they dropped the ball right at the goal post. However, a few have gone that extra distance to create unique packaging for the game disc as well as the other contents (such as the American Castlevania: Lord Of Shadows CE). Unique disc packaging (Ie, not a cardboard sleeve!) is always welcomed!

As primarily a PC CE collector, I approve of more PC collector's editions ;)
I own all the Painkiller games that have been made so far, I would enjoy adding a CE into the mix as well.

Do you know what will happen the the Amazon listing, it's just that the picture for the current and correct collector's Edition is just the standard copy of the game.
Where as the cancelled one shows a picture of the old collector's edition and is misleading.

No problem, I have updated the main news page aswell.

I assume you are referencing the one Amazon have listed as "limited edition"? - there is no stock and will be no new stock. I have asked for this to be removed.
