I do know that you making the design through that link and finding a set that someone bought straight through the site is the same thing though.

Something like this is super weird. I get wanting the "actual" item, trust me. But in this case the "actual" item, and you making it, is the same thing. Kind of a gray area in terms of authenticity and your collection.

Maybe try emailing Astro about it? They might have some insight on if there are differences between the promo, the purchasable set and you making your own? If the plastics they used changed X year, or printing style changed Y year then you have an idea at least?
Well usually if the person who is selling it has other press items that is usually enough for me. Luckily Darksiders is not big enough for people to sell fakes.

So I got some new items for my other collections (other than Darksiders that is). I also framed some of my rare Darksiders posters as well as finally getting a custom plexiglass case for my holy grail War statue (so I do not wear at the paint cleaning it and so it is protected).

New items:

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Press Pack:

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Launch Event Items & TGS Bamboo Fan:

Here is the new plexiglass box I got custom made for my ultra rare War statue. This was a terrible process as they never got the base right, but luckily I was able to correct one of the FOUR replacements using a table saw (yeah, they sent me 4 replacements and didn't get a single one right and the routing of the lip was atrocious and looked as if they were doing the routing level by freehand). Also here are the rare Darksiders posters I framed with dual matting, as well as framing of the lenticular poster from the Revengeance items. Below that are a couple new cases I got got my controller, the DSII Press Marble Tombstone, and my DSIII Chaos Potion Gamescom Drink.

Finally found two of the last few items I was looking for, the Darksiders 1 Keychain and the Darksiders II Press USB, and I even found one I didn't know existed which was a Australian version of the pre-order book (this one is a stapled spine unlike the North American ones which are a glued squared off spine... this is the 4th variant I have found over the years). I also added some nice God of War items to my collection with a really nice Pewter holiday ornament that was an internal Sony employee gift, and then I also got the Mjolnir Pen & Guardian Shield Notebook press items. Last item is some Ghost of Tsushima Drink Coasters that were from the Sucker Punch Dev Party (these pair well with the sake set).

Darksiders II Press Gift USB:

Darksiders Keychain:

Darksiders Australia Variant Pre-Order Comic & Artbook (also comparison to the NA version, the Australian one is paper clip style binding and the NA one is squared glued style, also the pages on NA are more glossy and the Australian one is very matte and lastly the posters are the same images but totally different sizes):

God of War Sony Employee Gift Pewter Holiday Ornament:

God of War Ragnarok Press Gift Mjolnir Pen & Guardian Shield Notebook:

Ghost of Tsushima Dev Party Drink Coasters:

Lastly I wanted to share a couple images I made that are of the old webpages of the original blog posts, by their creators Fluid Design, about the God of War Press Kits. Here they are for anyone else who likes to keep any official info on your collectibles (I had to piece them together using the WayBackMachine due to them changing their website a while back and deleting all their older posts):
