Got both versions...and they came G1 sized both...

My understanding of it is as follows:

A G2 steelbook does exist BUT only for US or maybe NTSC editions of the loot chest

European PS3 loot chest came with G1 steels

You are correct. The G2 steel only came with the PS3 NTSC loot chest.
