Ah but the in game Joel was air brushed since the world was not ready for an imperfect hero...

To be fair... Naughty dog are not great at faces... Elena always looks like she's got rotten teeth and even the perfect Nate... 'NATE!!!' looks more like Jaws from time to time...

It s true about ND and faces though... Compare Square Enix and Tomb Raider or Ubi and Assassins and you'll know what I mean... Bodies yup, faces no...
