Look at Star Wars for example, that has one huge cult following & some of the collectors will pay top dollar for things simply because they are sealed or just hard to find. Some Star Wars games & CE still go for a fair amount of money. The original Xbox Star Wars games still get a good price for them from both collectors of Star Wars & video games.

Some of my stuff is sealed, some of its not. Things that are sealed are kept that way simply as i have no need to open it that i can think of so it sits on the shelf. At the moment,i am trying to see if i can get every single original Xbox game made starting with the PAL versions first. I am not doing this to make a profit,i am doing this firstly because i think it would be cool to look at a wall full of games & know i have every single one made. Secondly,i know that sooner or later some of these games will just either cease to be around at all for whatever reason or be so hard to find its ridiculous. So by doing this,to me its simply me preserving a part of history, the history of gaming.

In regards to the next gen Xbox One & PS4,simply put we are completely screwed. If used games cant be used on your own console without having to go online, which sooner or later will cease to exist these games will be worthless. If you cant just put a disc into any machine what good will they be. You would have to have a console the game came from & hope the console never dies if you ever wanted to part with your collection for any reason. If you dont have it or it dont work, then all those used games would be worthless. What about new games, just as worthless if the online servers cease to exist & you have to be online to activate them etc. Next gen is possibly where video game collecting may meet its end unfortunately.

My two cents,peace out
Interesting wanting to having every game made good luck to you in you quest, So how many do you have and what is the target to get. Well we can only wait and see what the game play is if CE became like the Dead Space 3 CE stuff but no disc but a code to download game would you still collect. I think people would but the separation of game and items would kill it for most, un-boxings on Youtube will never be the same. Like Apple with iTunes not brought a song off it yet. I'm old school went to the record shop on a Saturday would spend hours there nodding my head my point is you children's, children won't see CE as they have been in the past so in that will you collection be worth something in the long run that is a good question.

Retro games in general hold up their value pretty well and only tend to go up in the future. The problem with current generation gaming is that the term "limited edition" is pretty much coined to every game. If you want a safe bet investing in the short term, buy only editions that are numbered or limited to a certain amount, preferably less than 10,000. Other than that, buy only games which IP's are new (safe bet on console exclusives) but stay away from big companies like naughty dog and konami, as they have the cash to mass produce and advertise their product. Demon's Souls, a ps3 exclusive coming from a rather small publisher (Atlus), has high prices for their special editions and first edition on ebay though the game has been re-released in the market as "ps3 greatest hits".

I'm actually rather curious what people think will happen to retro stuff in the next 10 - 15 years

Usual argument for the increase in retro prices is that people who played the games when they were young are now in their 30's 40's and want to collect that which they loved when they were young

So given enough time will retro stuff go down in price as those who played it as a kid get too old and younger generations don't care as much?

Or will each new generation produce retro collectors and enough to keep the prices on the rise?

Good point but i think theres a few retro collectors out there that didnt grow up with the older games & consoles who still apreciate them for one reason or another.
If you make a comparison to toy collectors for arguements sake, theres a lot of younger generation collecting the old toys, not because they grew up with them but because they are a fan of something in particular or again appreciate them for one reason or another

I think relevance is the key factor. Famicom (Nintendo 8 bits) and super famicom will always stay relevant because of Nintendo's branding, with its key IP's still in play on the today's current generation. Not so much for Jaguar or 3DO, though they are still expensive to get and likely hit their bottom value.
Actually retro gaming is in a kind of renaissance state at the moment, thanks to Xbox live, PSN and Nintendo eshop. And I think it will continue to gain popularity in future generations as well.

Lol I know serveral collectors who own ever single american xbox game. Xbox is nothing to get to excited over at least in the american market there not any high dollar game so just spending the time it could easily be done. There more gamecube games that command higher prices then then anything on xbox.

Its different between countries, more games were produced for America than anywhere else that i am aware of. So theres more games still around, even some of the games that were banned or recalled in the US can be found cheap. With PAL format theres a but load of games that arent easy to find anywhere because either less were produced, making it rarer or werent released in certain PAL regions making it harder to get sometimes
