Sorry if this is kind off-topic for your thread, but I actually work for USPS and can verify that the majority of the time they are a lot cheaper to mail things by than with UPS or FedEx. Its just a fact of the matter that large and heavy items cost a lot to ship, especially overseas. I have personally mailed an item to Australia for $30 when UPS wanted $119 for it.

This is what I was wondering. What size did you mail to Austrailia?

It wasn't that big. I was just mailing a bundle of candy to a friend that didn't have it available. A lot of the price for mailing things goes by weight rather than size, honestly.

I saw you mentioned 12x12x12 earlier as the size? It depends on countries but some have a limit on how big a parcel you can mail... You can check all of that on the International Mailing Manual on USPS.com > http://pe.usps.com/text/imm/welcome.htm

Also, you will want to mail First Class Airmail, as it will be least expensive, however if your item is over 4lbs it will have to go Priority Airmail, which has different size regulations than regular airmail. Also minimum price for priority is about 30~40USD.
