right off the bat you meet an 'assassin' who turned wannabe Templar. When you kill him you throw away the hidden blade because you don't know what it is, but if you go hunt an animal immediately you use the hidden blade. In chapter 2 you are then given hidden blades to prove your skills and magically you know how to be an assassin. TADA!

As a mega fan of the story and lore, so far I am disappoint.

I completely agree. It is one thing for people to say it does not take itself seriously but really the begging of the game is just poorly written. I think they could just not get a really good idea for how to get pirates involved somehow with Assassins.
