I can answer that question. Marketing wanted to make 150 for their contests through different retailers, and I thought it would be cool to make some for collectors (also, no factories will make only 150 of something). The deal was that we couldn't announce them until a week before PAX though. The ones given out for PR are called the "SCEA Edition" and are marked as such, and the Collector's version is numbered 1-300. I wanted to do it as a paint variant, but I was under such a tight deadline, there wasn't time. The reason there are only 77 at PAX East is that booth space is really limited and these things take up a lot of room (1 full pallet is like 7 ft tall). Still not sure how we'll be selling the rest.

Hope that answers your questions,

G

Hope you'll make them available for international customers as well.

One more question, what about the Last of Us American Dreams graphic novel you'll have available there? What about the rest 800 copies? Will they be sold anywhere?

Thanx in advance for any response!

Hi TonybSG,

I haven't spoken to the UK office about it, but I can look into it. The issue is that we have no ecommerce set up for real (not digital) goods, so the only way we can sell these at the moment is if we are at a convention and we hire a company to run the credit card transactions for us. Because all the studios got together to create this "community" booth at PAX prime, it was easy for me to jump on that train to sell some of the statues. However, I don't know if this is going to happen at every convention (I really hope it does because that would be a great opportunity for collectors to get this really limited edition stuff).

As far as the graphic novel goes, ND is making that themselves, so I have nothing to do with it.

Thanks for the clear-up Gary! Appreciate that.

Wow a paint variant would have made things very interesting.. Either way, I have to get this one somehow. Things get really tricky when it's not available to the international market but I can see that you are definitely trying to get these out to everyone. One step at a time and keep up the good work!

I see. Still feels deceptive, probably because it was as it seems that was the plan for PAX, but it had good intentions behind it I suppose.

So there are 450 of them officially now (2 separate runs technically). Thanks for telling us, now we know it was not 300 in total but another 300 all together... appreciate that FAD.

FAD, any chance of getting a few detailed pics of one of the production Delsin Statues (not the stock pics)? Just would like to see the detail of the face.

Hi Flatout,

I'm sorry you feel that way. To be honest, when Marketing put out that statement, I believe they meant 150 of their statues to giveaway. They knew I would be selling the 300 so obviously collectors would be aware that there were more than 150. There was no nefarious plan to increase their value by incorrectly stating the number made.

We're not currently in the collectibles business and technically, if it hadn't been for me wanting to make some for collectors, the run would have been a lot smaller. I guess it comes down to this, would you rather pay $600 for a secondary market statue, or have me make a small run of things so they are a little less exclusive, but more collectors get to enjoy them and you don't have to blow half your rent check to afford them? Now, it is unfortunate that a few people did spend a lot to buy their SCEA statue off eBay, but I couldn't talk about my version until the Pax Community folks made their announcement. Anyone who did pay a substantial amount for their statue can email me and I'll see if I can work out something with them.

For the record, of the SCEA edition, I made 150 for marketing (the contest ones to be given away), 150 for the SuckerPunch game team, and 100 for internal staff at SCEA. For the Collectibles version, I made 300 and they are numbered.

Hope this clears things up,

Gary

Thanks for the info.

I did pay around $500 on eBay and haven't received it yet. So the one I'm getting is not numbered?

I saw you mentioned something about the paint in your earlier post, will the one I got and the one you are about to sell look different?

Thanks,
Ken

No need for the explanation... I was not upset about it. I was just stating the obvious (or so how I feel). I know there was nothing nefarious about it, but a deception all the same... they just do not think of production numbers like collectors do (that is why). This happens very often in the gaming industry... a good example was David Jaffe promising people he was not working on Twisted Metal and then announced a month later at E3 he was making Twisted Metal.

It is just part of the industry... but production numbers are different and something collectors take very seriously. Again not upset so please do not take it that way... I just call things how I see them. Plus I had not fallen prey to paying a big amount for something that was thought to be limited to only 150.

So there is 700 in total? Is that correct?

I do have to say I disagree with this: "so obviously collectors would be aware that there were more than 150". It is quite obvious that none of us came to that conclusion, or did you mean only SCEA? Or maybe you meant they said it that way internally but that was not put out that way to the public?

No, he said he wanted to do something like that but did not have time.
