Money, money, money...

as someone who works as a programmer... I'm sure I would love working on video games, but with all the horror stories I hear from people I know in the industry I would think it's not worth it.

Most of them make less than I do, work longer hours, with fewer benefits, and have horrible turn over rates (ie: they lay-off most of the work force and rehire nearly every year). Not to mention I get the impression that it completely kills whatever joy they get from actually playing most games.

I'm much happier in a someone less interesting but much much more stable job where i can still enjoy my hobby.
