Personally I prefer the G1s (bigger art to look at), but since the change in shape of the X1 cases, all my X1 steels are G2 now. Super Happy that Merch's Titanfall Steels are G2! You rule Merch!

to be sure, do you have pics from g1 and g2 steelbooks??? to compare them? maybe titanfall steel g1 and g2?

I saw some pc version of the game on your picture, you can just compare the game with the steelbook, if they are in the same size, it's G1, if it's smaller than the game case, it's G2.

Yeah, just compare them to a 360 game case (the Watchdogs promo one you've got will do just fine). If its the same size as that its a G1 - if you compare it to a ps3/ps4/xbox1 case size and its THAT size, then its a G2.
