i hope this isn't a "matte finish", it needs a glossy clearcoat!...they are more prone to scratches.

I don't think they are more prone. I think it's just that the glossy finish hide the scratches better. In addition glossy finish cracks, especially in the corners. Look at pretty much any Ubisoft steelbook under a strong light. Stopped buying their gold and ultimate edition steelbooks just because of that
