What you have is the NORMAL edition of the game. This is how the game was released. The reason the box is so thick is that there is a guide book inside. So it's game+guidebook inside a cardboard box.

No, thank you for the clarification! Regardless, it's a beauty of an item and I'm sure it will find a buyer soon, especially given its condition. When I came across it, I figured it was not too easy to find, and wanted to add it to my collection. Am very flexible with the price of course (accepting best offers). Also willing to trade for a Mass Effect NTSC CE.
