Yep there are stickers on the box. They can be hard to see, but they are very sticky. I got them off by simply rubbing them forcefully with my thumb (it did not damage the finish any), and I used Goo-Gone (collector's best friend) to gently wipe away any remaining residue.
I usually store those backing papers inside the box with my game (for completion sake). You mentioned Star Craft 2 - I just left the backing on that one, since it was so rigid.
