Re: Official limited Tomb Raider screenprints and giclees now live!
To my limited knowledge, there is no set definition of quality for a giclee though
So while it certainly seems to imply better quality, I'm not entirety sure how you would go about arguing it

It is considered the most desirable by a lot of members on here. I would order it now, not later as it is selling well

Re: Official limited Tomb Raider screenprints and giclees now live!
A Giclee is a form of high quality digital printing. A fancy machine sprays fancy ink on fancy paper and the result is a nice piece of art.
I am biased here, but I think screenprints are way, way cooler than giclees. Screenprints are a very specific process of cutting out individual colors and printing them on top of each other mechanically to create the final product. They have a lot of technical limitations, so the art has to be prepared with being screen printed in mind ahead of time, and not every art can be screen printed. The paper is nice, heavy stock, and the finish is usually matte, but can contain metallic inks. There's a lot of craftsmanship involved, and a neat history and culture behind them. It's entirely possible that it's an acquired taste and the limitations involved would mean people like them less, but I think if you know about the process some you can appreciate the art that much more for the work involved in it.... Again, I'll freely admit that I'm obsessed with screenprint posters and so am a biased opinion. |

Re: Official limited Tomb Raider screenprints and giclees now live!
Giclees stomp all over any litho (in terms of overall print quality) that I've ever owned.
Gicless produce better color contrast, deeper blacks, lusher colors, and slightly higher detail over lithographs. All giclees that I've seen are printed on archival cotton paper as well; which trounce the standard stock litho paper. Screenprints, as Ryan has said, are awesome too; but they're an entirely different monster. I have several and they definitely have their own appeal. |
