Best/Cheapest way to ship from the UK to the US

I'm trying to make a trade with someone in the UK however the item they're sending me is extremely large and he said he was quoted 70-100GBP for shipping.

I'm curious what most of the UK members here recommend for shipping large-ish items to the US at a reasonable cost.

I tend to ship through work, which in general is obviously no use but if you let me know the size and weight I can see if I can be any help?

as with hippee these are one of the best firms, they basically give you a quote on different couriers

me personally have sent many big ass boxes to usa etc including crysis nanos, bordelands loots etc etc, hell i even sent a 14kg box just last week, cost ?60

the problem here in uk is royal mail is the best for 2kgs and under, anything over that gos into parcelforce territory which is crazy, thats when the couriers are best option

example, i send something to usa at the post office its

1999 grams it cost 28.80gbp tracked
2001 grams it costs 37gbp no insurance (useless), cheapest tracked is 63.67gbp

so for 2 lousy grams of weight it more than doubles the price

like i said i sent 14000grams for ?60

that was a box with dimensions of approx 52cm x 42cm x 38cm so was a decent size.

this is an NECA Portal gun so it's a good sized box though it probably doesn't weigh too much.

i think they are over 2kgs mate so it will be courier territory. ask whoever is sending it to look at parcel2go themselves

I'll go and measure the box for my portal gun and give you the dimensions so you can get an idea of the prices.

Yeah it is definitely over 2KG as I shipped one to Germany last year via parcelforce through parcel2go. It was only about ?16 to Germany though.

I use Transglobal. They tend to be quite cheaper than parcel2go when shipping to the US, but be aware of remote surcharges.

Cosmic is right, if not a remote area, Transglobal are the cheapest to the states - i remember shipping a gears of war lancer to the states for about ?47 and thats quite a bit bigger than the portal gun
