Default Nintendo Announces "NFC" Figures

Haven't seen anyone around here post about this yet, but this is absolutely AMAZING news!

At first I thought it was just a cash-grab technique a la Disney Infinity or Skylanders, but with the NFC technology planned in the Wii-U from the start, it seems like they had this on the drawing board for awhile.

Also, the greatest piece of news in all of it is that these figures will transfer and receive data across MULTIPLE platforms and software titles! WOW! That's crazy - it could be like unlocking special characters in SSBB or Mario Kart by buying a figurine or something... and then using that same figurine in a Star Fox game and flying as Samus or something... there's certainly some "red alert" signs here that Nintendo could mess things up in some of our favorite games, but they (above all the other contenders in the industry) seem to have their fans at the front of their minds... at least sometimes

I DEFINITELY will have to make some shelf space though if they start releasing a ton of these things!! What're YOUR thoughts?

I still think of it as an easy cash bait or gimmick, but at this point Nintendo needs all tools available at their hands to improve the WiiU lifespan. Wish the company all the luck this year, because if Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8 can't save the console then probably nothing much will.

I think it will boil down to being something very similar to skylanders and Disney infinity, but perhaps with another "gimmick" tied to it or better integration.

I can already see a exclusive E3 NFC incoming, just the way they did it with Skylanders.
