i heard a lot of these "niche" simulator games hold their value quite well...and they tend to be smaller print runs and uncommon to find out in the wild down the road when game hunting.

I am not sure if you have a specific game in mind as an example but my local Bestbuy is filled with copies of Farming Simulator collector's editions. In any case, the minimum order size from steelbook nowadays is 5000 copies. You can't go any lower than that. So at the very least it is limited to 5K which is still quite a bit for this game if you ask me. Mortal Shell was limited to 6000 and Amazon still has hundreds of them in stock.
