As stated above, G1 = Generation 1 (standard Dvd size case) and G2 = Generation 2 (in other words, Blu-Ray size cases)
G1 is used to refer to any full-size cases for Dvd's, PS2, Xbox, X360, or Wii, whereas G2 is used to refer to Blu-Ray and PS3 (and also the very few HD Dvd SteelBooks) Very rarely a G1 case is used as standard for special game releases, where the SteelBook may be unbranded and interchangeable between X360, PS3, or PC versions of the game. These are generally shipped as bonus SteelBooks alongside the standard edition of a game (Eg, COD Collection / MW Collection), or as a case upgrade (such as the GameGears release of Brink) |
