Storing Lithographs

Hi guys. What would be the best approach to storing lithographs especially limited run ones wherein one would expect the value to grow over a period of time? Does framing it reduce the value?

I was planning on buying a couple of Mass Effect 2 signed lithographs but was pondering about the best way to store it.

A frame will add some value but not too much, also if using a frame make ensure that the glass is a UV blocker otherwise over time it will degrade or fade. Keep it out of direct sunlight anyway because the heat will effect the paper or card and cause it to bend. Framing is the best choice but it takes up space and costs.

If not framing, ensure that you keep the Lithographs sandwiched between two thick pieces of cardboard with at least 2 cm around each edge. Then place in a box. instead of cardboard you could use transparent plastic sheets, they are far superior but you pay for that.

It should already be in a plastic wrap, but if your using a replacement wrap make sure it's not one where the plastic has the potential to transfer chemicals from the manufacturing processes. Use ones that are designed for the food industry as they have the strictest chemical standards.

It may also be a good idea to place moisture absorbent salt bags in the box to prevent condensation.

I would say it definitely depends on whether you plan on displaying these lithographs, or just storing them nicely for your own personal pleasure.

If you plan on displaying them, then I agree with Gurps. A nice frame with UV glass would definitely be the way to go. If you don't plan on displaying them, then I would say that it would be wise to store them in something solid (which can't be bent), and preferably waterproof and fire-retardant

I would personally recommend an acrylic frame of some sort, its not the cheapest option but it will protect much better than any bog standard picture frame
