I still dont understand why the bundle including game cost 56 dollar more for shipping.
While I do think that's utterly ridiculous, it's more than likely due to the fact that the game and CE/Dev Team edition ships separately
So basically they're saying it costs them 56 dollars to ship a standard sized game to Australia which again is dumb :hammer:
I would recommend just getting the add-on version as it's pretty much made for your scenario

Yeah I added the edition + the game in the first instance, but the price without the game was only $28 - you can get the game easily enough anyhow so I am not worried.
Although customs might hurt a little :-/

Picked up a couple to trade or sell, and I also picked one up for myself. Too bad they made so many. Should'vee been limited to 1k just like original DS Ultra LE. I remember when the original came out. I bought so many of them. I sold them each for between 300 and 500. That was a pretty sweet score.
Thanks swift for the head's up!

Anyone know if there's official word whether or whether not there's anything unique about the copy of the game if you ship with the game? Also, remaining stock numbers on Dev Edition standard and Add-on are different.
States that the game comes with the following DLC:
?DLC: First Contact bundle (includes the First Contact Suit and Negotiator weapon for precise dismemberment)
?DLC: Witness the Truth bundle (includes the Witness the Truth suit and tactical Evangelizer weapon)
Which is the exact same DLC that gamestop is offering. So I don't believe there is anything unique about the game itself
About the remaining stock thing. I think that the add-on CE only stock shows the real stock remaining and that they might take that number and divide it by 3 for each system (I.E. have about 500 copies available for each system right now)
Of course that's just my thoughts
Also down to 1545 copies left

Yeah really not a fan of that water bottle myself
I mean for this price they could of made a nicer metal canteen like thing
I know I'm nitpicky but these items are supposed to fit into the fiction of Dead Space. Wouldn't you want a airtight, watertight water bottle in case you have to space walk at some point in time?
I mean imagine this thing in zero grav and tell me honestly if you think it's not going to be spilling the entire time?
To be honest though what REALLY bothers me is that damn "art book"
I mean come on 100 USD just on the CE stuff and you can't produce an art book similar to Skyrim or the Witcher II
Skyrim's CE cost 150 USD at retail and EA would have you believe that the game costs 60 at launch with purchase of the CE SO Bethesda with 90 USD managed to produce a rather large and detailed dragon statue, a kickass full-size leather art book and the CE packaging. Honestly most of the stuff in this doesn't look very expensive to make so little disappointed there
I mean in this day and age can these expensive CE's maybe not include the cheapest looking art books known to man?
Just my thoughts of course
Ordered aswell through a friend, thanks for alerting us to this :)[QUOTE]

01-12-2013, 08:29 PM
Hi all. I work at Treehouse and was responsible for parts of this project....
First off, I just want to say that we're fans of this site and went through a lot of it during planning for the Reckoning CEs and this one. It's been fun to see what you guys have to say about what we did, and that you have such an active community for such a specialized segment of the gaming space is impressive, and really cool.
Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you, and chime in on a couple questions that seem to come up a few times, and also make myself available to you guys if you have any other specific questions. I don't want to make myself a nuisance, so I'll only post again if asked to. You guys obviously have a comfortable and good thing going without any official involvement, so I'm not trying to mess that up.
Some answers/justifications:
* There are only 5,000 made, across all configurations. Whether it includes a 360 game, PS3 game, PC game, or no game, the total of all units made is 5,000. We're going to split them up based on how they sell, but I can tell you the initial stock released was 2,000 for the set with no game and a little under 3,000 distributed between the versions with games (holding some back for Visceral folks, etc). So when someone says only 600 left and someone else says 1500 left, you're probably looking at different versions. The total adds up to 5,000, so you'd have to load up your cart with every configuration to get the full picture. To save you the time, we were at about 1700 sold this morning (total, across all versions).
* Shipping is tough. I know it's rough to pay a lot of money for something that you can't actually use or play with, but we're subsidizing our actual costs here. We spent two weeks going back and forth with different rates and timings and how much of it we could discount from one column in order to make the total at checkout less offensive. Between actual postage and the additional fees our warehousing company is charging us for some of the stuff going on here, we'll be losing money on shipping on just about every order. I still think it sucks that we have to charge you what we are, but if it makes it any easier to swallow, we're absolutely not trying to make money off you on shipping. There are some countries with a $75 rate. We were actually quoted $100 as a kind of blanket fee for "everywhere else", but I made our operations guy change it to $75. I know that's still crazy high, but if you live in one of those countries, I imagined it wouldn't be terrible for us to take a little more of a loss to send you something you might not have as much ordinary access to, and I assumed we would be talking about a fairly small segment of interested parties. (If I'm way off base and you live in a country that is being charged $75 and you don't normally pay near that much for large boxes, message me and tell me if there's a shipping method that works better for you that we've not explored and we'll look into it for the future.)
* The $99 international shipping with the game is meant to be a deterrent, and $56 extra for shipping the game later is obviously not based on real ship rates. There are contractual issues with shipping Region 1 games outside of Region 1, so we opted for disincentivizing people with higher shipping fees, rather than throwing a nondescript error at checkout (which was our only other option given the limitiations of our platform and the time we had to work out something custom). If you're in a country that is seeing $99 for shipping, you should be buying the Add-On and getting your game from someone else.
* The Tins are arriving at our warehouse pre-packaged. There are some printed cardboard inserts to keep things in place and everything is nested pretty solidly. Damage during shipping is always a risk, but missing items is [hopefully] unlikely, and damage to multiple items is very unlikely (barring some freak forklift puncture, etc). We're doing our best to make sure it shows up intact and is nicer than you're expecting. I know a lot of the items themselves are sealed, but I don't recall if the tin itself is. I'll double check on that....
* We based the price-point off the great Borderlands 2 edition with the loot chest, but we thought our stuff was a little nicer made (but, we would, I suppose). The marker is really nice in person, and the journal feels like something special. And the flip-book is difficult to describe or picture accurately, but is probably the most expensive item we produced. We tried to pack in as much production value as possible, and hopefully you'll be really impressed when you get it. Also, regarding other comparisons, keep in mind that most of those were dealing with radically different economies of scale. Making 150,000 of something is really a whole lot cheaper per item than making only 5,000 of something.
* We work with EA (and other companies) to make official products, and the store we run and host is under their domain, but we are not EA. I know it sounds like marketing nonsense, but we really are just a handful of gaming nerds that like working on video game stuff. We made something we thought we could be proud of, and while we have to make enough money to keep the lights on and keep making things, we didn't do it for the money. Yes, it's more expensive than the $20 extra a lot of CEs cost, but we didn't want to make a few bucks worth of uninteresting stuff. I personally think it's a pretty good value (the unfortunate realities of international shipping aside), and really like how everything came out. It's more than a casual fan should be expected to pay, for sure, but we didn't make it for the casual fan....
* Payment will be charged at time of purchase. This sucks, and we're actively looking into better ways of handling this, but for limited items with long lead times, it's a sticky situation. If we don't collect the money up front, it's easy to have someone just tie up all the inventory and not intend to actually pay for it, etc. Plus, we have to pay for the items up front, so if we get X orders of something, and order accordingly, we're stuck with a bunch of dead inventory if half of them cancel. It's partly to protect people that want limited items, and it's partly to protect ourselves, but it still kind of sucks and we're looking into better ways all the time.
* Please note that the picture of the bottle posted above is our prototype. We're photographing the final one properly early this week, but you can see a less-fancy photo of it on the single-page site. The molding looks like that photo, but the final materials are less blatantly plastic-looking.

Thanks for chiming in Ryan I personally appreciate the effort put in to your post. I will ignore the order quantities and thanks for providing an updated sold amount.
The shipping rate to the UK I can't argue about as in my opinion it's extremely cheap, my only concern is tax, but not much can be done about that!

although it does not appeal to me, well done on doing a ce fans might enjoy bit odd although i am sure they will sell knocking them out so soon after xmas and so short before release really gives the fans time to get the money together
which only looking from auk perspective when tax is added between 100 t0 110 for a ce with no game add the game could be up to 155 rough conversion
155 gbp or225 dollars think that blows borderland loot chest out of the water

Hello Treehouse Ryan. Question if you could answer , If the CE is brought with the game itself? will it be sealed and same question if brought without? will it be sealed on the outside? as most people as you have stated have brought it without the game as $99 international shipping is over the top. just wondering if there is a difference. Please let us know ASAP..

Hey Ryan, thanks for posting on this thread, It's good to have guys from the industry here.
I think the shipping cost is fine in general. For example in the bioware store the shipping costs are more reasonable now, so thanks for that.

Our first day for announcing was December 20th, but we couldn't get the video done in time and Visceral folks have been super busy ramping up for game launch. But it didn't make sense to start things off without their involvement, since they had such a big hand in how the thing came together, so we just kept pushing. We'd like to have had more time and notice, too....
My memory of the Ultimate Loot Chest was that it was $160, but in checking the main site, it's shown as $150. Ours is $160, so maybe we're off a bit, but we can only match pricing on features and what's included. That 2K could leverage international distribution better at the full scale of that edition is relevant to your purchasing decision, but not something we can really account for.

The Tins with the goodies will always be shipped separately from the game. No one will get a version of this with the game inside it. Whether you purchase the Add-On or the edition with the game, you'll get the same box of contents. The edition with the game also includes a second shipment with just the game, but is otherwise identical.

When we designed the size of the Tin, I know we included space for the game in a complicated Tetris-like use of its internal space. I was not present when we did the full unboxing of our copy of the edition, but I'm sure there is room for putting a jewel case in there somewhere. I don't know if the specific place we figured out initially is still present because there was a period of time where it looked like we wouldn't be able to sell the game. Regardless, the packing of the contents in the Tin was meant to minimize space and safeguard the goodies for transit, so putting everything back in wasn't really on anyone's mind.... This seems like an obvious oversight now, but the idea was that the stuff was a little more useful than your normal CE includes, so in our heads we imagined you'd actually take the stuff out and have it on your desk/person/shelf/whatever.
I'll see how well I can box our copy back up with a game inside it on Monday and report back.

There is absolutely nothing special about our copies of the game. We have access to the standard Origin DLC (as has been noted already), and everything else is identical to what you'd get somewhere else.
From an industry perspective, getting exclusive DLC is a monumentally big ask. The giant retailers can do it on account of their size and numbers, but it's a very expensive thing to develop and work out for the kinds of numbers we would do.... We always ask, but it hasn't ever happened.
We're working on an unannounced store to launch next month(-ish), and apparently we have access for the first time to some DLC that will be only available through us. It is not related to a CE, though, and I know literally nothing else specific about it. (I don't mean to tease, but it's an exciting thing to finally have access to!)
If this Dead Space edition does as well as we hope, we're optimisitic that our next ones will only be bigger and better-supported with more exclusives than just what we produced.
This is something we take seriously, and we've had some talks with other copmanies about what kinds of boundaries we can push with future CEs, so my fingers are crossed that something neat like this can happen eventually.

Fair point. "Ground" in that case just means "not expedited", which really means "not super expensively".
I'm told our warehouse is set to receive the tins on the 21st. They'll have to be checked in, inventoried, inspected, etc, and then boxed up and shipped off to you all. We hedged and said by the 28th, but we're pretty sure it'll be appreciably sooner than that.
When your actual box ships to your actual address, we'll be able to tell you what the estimated delivery date is and whether there is a tracking number (not usually for international, but sometimes we have some extra info if you email customer service). Fair warning: we've been having trouble with a terrible bug where shipping confirmations are not reliably being sent. I built this as a stop-gap while we continue you track that nasty regression down: http://treehousebrandstores.com/wheresmystuff/ (but this will do no one here any good until at least the 22nd or 23rd, so please to be not hammering the form)
I haven't seen how the Tin will be packaged in the box that goes out, but the people that are in charge of that care very much about not wrecking your nice new things, so I'm sure it will be as safe as is practical. I'll see if I can get some more details on how that will look when everyone is back in the office.

It was my understanding that we weren't able to efficiently combine these things into larger boxes with multiples, so the linear escalation of the shipping rate is actually intentional since we're expecting to be shipping them separately and therefore paying multiples of postage ourselves.
I know that's kind of a bummer, so I will ask for additional confirmation on this and if there are exceptions to be made, we'll try to sort it out....

I'm guessing they split it up due to how many copies of the games they have, but if all of the "add-on" copies sell out, I imagine they'll remove some of the games, and add more stock to the "add-on" part, as they said that they'd prefer people to buy the add-on instead of the copies with game xx

I like this CE, and I like this idea.
I've thought about this long ago, where developers/publishers offer the CE individually without the game so that we may have the option/choice of the CE we want instead of having to purchase every variations and different CE released locally and regionally (specially for our favourite franchises).
I encourage other developers to release this type of CE as well as making available for everyone and anyone to purchase. :thumb: :notworthy:

None of the game bundle orders will come with the game inside the box anyway, they'll come separated from the Dev Team CE.

Anyone know if it's possible to switch orders?
I ordered 1 version of the PS3 Dev edition, however after reading about the increased shipping costs and the game isn't bundled with the edition, I want to change it to 2x Add-on edition.
I sent a help ticket but it's been like 10 hours and still no reply. By this rate it might be sold out before someone replies :(

Yeah, this. We're a pretty skeleton crew, and we let our customer service people have weekends off. I want the Add On one, to the UK.
If I go to order this now, my card isn't actually being charged the full price yet, right? (That'll be just before it ships, around late January).
So, how much will I actually be charged *right now* if I go to order?

If you read the the replies from Treehouse_Ryan, he said that unfortunately due to the limited nature of the product, you will have to pay full price upfront to prevent people from buying massive amount and not paying for the product.
So yes, you will be charged full price right now.

Ryan why the shipping cost to argentina and adjacent countries is so expensive (XPO International Parcel $75.00), compared to australia (MSI International Parcel $43.00) or finland (XPO International Parcel $40.00)?
I imagine this is to do with us not sending many packages there historically and therefore not having enough data to do a decent analysis of costs. I'll see what our nearest quote was, and try to determine how we got to $75. Worst case scenario, if you ever do really want something but the shipping seems out of line, I'd be willing to push through an authorization to refund you the overage from whatever our actual costs were, and maybe that would result in a better understanding of rates to that area for everyone....
Skip the rest of this answer unless you're bizarrely interested in knowing a lot more about how we calculate shipping.
As an aside, we're [obviously] not calculating rates in real-time. We have two spreadsheets with about 2100 lines in one and 800 or so in the other that we update with a complicated series of formulas for calculating shipping fees to various countries/regions. This is based off of ever-changing rates we get charged and evolving comparisons of shipping charged to you guys vs. shipping fees we pay. You may see this as horrendously over-complicated, and you'd be right, but this is borne out of a necessity to handle a bunch of different use cases, for instance:
* Most things are based on weight and are therefore straightforward.
* Lithographs are very lightweight, but require very specialized and expensive shipping arrangements.
* But shipping three lithographs is essentially the same price as shipping one, so those calculations can't be just additive.
* Most anything else you order won't be able to be combined with a lithograph, so that means multiple shipments, and therefore a bit more complexity in actual shipping costs.
* Repeat for a ton of other indivudally specific edge cases.
* Oh, and every general and specific rule needs to be handled differently for a great deal of countries and/or regions.
* Some of which require duties to be paid, otherwise the package is held up or returned. Which duties are sometimes different for different items within the same country.
* This list actually goes on....
And all of those rules and overrides need to be distilled into formulas and rows in those spreadsheets, which are then tweaked and re-imported into the system, and then some new thing comes along that we have to figure out (in this case, now everyone that orders this one thing will end up getting two shipments of vastly different dimensions and weights that will go out at different times and probably at different speeds).
Needless to say, this is zero fun, and after all of this work and head-banging-on-walls we're still stuck charging more than we'd like to ask customers to pay just to cover costs. All of which is to say, yes, our shipping rates suck, but we're doing as much as we can to make them suck just as much less as possible, and we're sorry.

Yeah, I got ahold of our production manager to move some inventory around since the Add-On version is winning. She made a mistake in the math, but was mad at me for hitting her up on a Sunday so she said it would be fine until the morning when we could get a more accurate look at sales numbers and then fix it for good. Stand by....

hey treehouse_Ryan could you clarify how these will be sealed?
are they going to be
shrink wrapped?
security sticker sealed?
piece of tape over the flaps?
no seal at al?
as i dont think it is clarified on for sale page
That is if it even comes sealed. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't ship sealed. Treehouse loves cutting corners.
So, bad news for the sealed collectors.... The tin is packaged in a nice cardboard box surrounded with solid styrofoam sheets keeping it in place and protected. 5,000 of those boxes will arrive at our warehouse, all sealed, and then they will be slapped with labels and shipped to their new owners.
Inside those boxes, the tin is not sealed or taped or shrink-wrapped in any way. I spent a while today exploring the feasibility of getting them sealed at the warehouse instead of the factory, but it's not going to happen.
As far as the goodies themselves, the data pad, journal, and water bottle are in poly bags. The postcards are shrink wrapped. The posters are in a tube. The marker is packaged in a neat little printed cardboard box, but it's closed with tabs and also has no tape or shrinkwrap.
This is clearly a miss on our part, but I'd like to ask you to believe me when I tell you it is because we're not intelligent, and not because we're trying to cut corners. The decision to ship the games separately was made for logistical reasons, separately and after the items and tins were produced. We worried about what you would get, and we worried about how we would get it to you, but we didn't spend enough time worrying about how it would finally be presented to you when it got there, I guess.
I will personally dedicate myself to not letting this happen on another CE we produce. I understand that sealed is not only better, but really so much better as to be the only way to go, but I hope a few of you will be willing to check out the pieces in person since you don't have to break a seal to do it....
Thank you for the informative post, i may have missed it but does the box have any space for a game to be inserted? is the game just shipping OUTSIDE the box of the edition?
I was able to get a 360 game case in the space where the data pad sits inside the tin (actually, the best fit was inside the cover of the data pad because of the angle at which the cover sits normally). There is a space on the left where the art book, journal, and postcards are packed that would work fine, but then you'd have to find new homes for them.... There is not a clearly demarcated place specifically for the game. But if you're just trying to keep your things together, the data pad location is probably the most covenient anyway. It's right at the top of the tin when you open it, and is sitting in a cardboard insert that holds it face up and centered and primary.

Thanks for info! I just hope you all used enough padding around the tins. Hopefully it's padded around all 6 sides, and hopefully it's all packed snugly in the cardboard box. Not to knock you personally, but I've bought tons of stuff from Treehouse and my only real complaint with your company is the inconsistency in the way that stuff is packed. I do believe that you all are getting better with the way you all pack stuff, but I've had more than a handful of items arrive damaged. The latest were my Mass Effect Homeworlds books that arrived with dinged up corners; and can't forget the Kingdoms of Amalur mess. No padding was used at all for the KoA Signature Edition, and the fragile boxes were crammed together in a tight shipping box. The big statue box crushed the smaller box that the game was packed in, and the statue box itself would also get damaged. :(

My Homeworlds CE arrived with dents as well, which they clearly didn't happen during transit. :(

It is both snug and completely surrounded by six pieces of styrofoam.
Very valid complaint. In our limited defense, we don't actually package or send anything ourselves. Our warehousing and fulfillment is handled by a 3rd Party Logistics company, and we battle with them over the quality of their packaging fairly often. We try to set guidelines, and we escalate different issues with them when those guidelines aren't followed, and we evolve how things are supposed to be done as we experiment and learn and get feedback, but it's a bit tough when it's essentially out of our hands. One of the reasons these boxes are arriving to the warehouse ready to be shipped right out is so that we can eliminate another possible point of failure between the factory and getting to you. (This sounds a bit like they're all bad, which is neither the truth, nor the point I'm trying to make. They do a fair amount of special accommodations for us, and often at short notice, and most packages are delivered without incident, but they're not quite as careful or perfect all the time as we'd like for our customers [though, that's an impossibly high bar, and would almost certainly be equally true of any solution short of doing it ourselves].)
We do always try to take care of people when things are damaged, in transit or otherwise, though. There is a certain degree of littler imperfections that have to be chalked up to "shit happens", but if there's real damage, we'll always work with you to try to make it right.

I think with this awesome kit collector edition that has been assembled
None of use are sad or unhappy that it is not sealed as it is obviously that it is a very rare thing these days
A thing called a shelf filler
Where the contents are meant to be opened and displayed in a nice bundle like in your promo pics
So for many of us the lack of a seal is a bonus as it means we do not devalue out by opening it
But for the few that where planning on buying 2. One too open and one to keep sealed, they may be disappointed
Not personally your companies fault, it seems that a few companies are over looking the options to seal collectors editions these days
I personally prefer the circle stickers on flaps seals for collectors editions like yours that have a lot of little things that should be open
And the shrink wrap full seal for the statue/art book standard CE as you know your not missing out on anything by leaving a statue &art book CE sealed

i`d assume either
they have a small 1 -2% excess of the stated quantity to cover breakages
OR
they would recall damagaed ones and replace the broken parts for undamaged parts
OR

Yes, the KoA editions were not as protected as the should have been, which is why extra effort was taken this time to make sure that didn't happen.
Our policy for replacements on limited items is to not sell as many as we made. We generally don't produce more than the stated number of something. For nearly every limited item, we produce exactly as many as the edition size and then hold back as many as we think will be necessary to use as replacements. Once everyone seems to be sorted out, we'll quietly sell whatever leftovers we have, or have them sent to the office for giveaways, etc.
For this CE, we produced exactly 5,000 and will use a percentage of them as potential replacements or open them up for parts in the unlikely event that something has gone wrong with just one item. The exception to this is the postcards. Turns out you can't get just 5,000 postcards printed, so we ordered more than that and will put them on the store separately sometime. I promise this is the only item in the whole collection that has a larger run, and nothing else will be available separately.

Some companies that send a lot of orders international mark down value and send as gift.
Canadian orders will not have to pay duties because we were able to work it out in the shipping method.
European orders will owe duties, and we have a proper customs letter.
I may or may not have done the gift thing for the small-time orders I used to pack up and ship out myself at a previous job, but we would get in a ton of trouble if we did it at this scale. Also, since we have a warehouse and tax-presence in the UK now, anything not completely above board would sink us....
Sorry for the additional costs, but we don't have a lot of options.

I was wondering, if you have a warehouse in UK now, wouldnt it be an option to send everything to UK first and than distribute over europe?
The thing is with taxes, its not the biggest problem. The problem is also the postal company charing 12.50 euro for receiving the payment. If you could send through uk you would prevent that, and just let us pay the taxes by a little bit higher shipping cost. Also that way the packages dont get stuck in customs which can take a while in some countries!
ps: ryan thanks for your replies, very very awsome. Wish more companies would take the time to do this!
Also, would it be an idea that you pitch new idea's for a next CE at this forum to get input from real collectors?

We talked at length about this. Here are most of the reasons it's a problem:
* Fairly substantial additional costs to ship them to the second warehouse and pay another team to count and inventory and store them. Would either have to eat those costs and lose margin for those units, or charge more for them to make it up. If this was the only problem, we would have eaten the charges in order to provide much better service to you all....
* Getting the tins over to the UK and through customs would take enough time that no one would get theirs until well after they beat the game and started to care less about it all. It post-poned the shipping date by a minimum of three weeks, but it easily could have stretched longer....
* If we have Tins in the UK warehouse, they have to be sold to only international customers because we owe VAT on anything that moves out of that warehouse. So the number of tins over there have to exist independently of the number of tins in the US warehouse, which means we have to decide up front how many we're sending over, and that means the UK/US inventories would sell out separately from each other, and if we over- or under- estimated how many would sell to each region, we'd have either dead stock, or other logistical problems. We didn't have any information on which to base this decsion because the KoA editions weren't allowed to be sold internationally, so we'd have had to make an already tough decision on the back of zero data.
* Assuming we have two sets of independent inventory now, we have to make the website able to track both and offer them to the right people at the right times. if the stocks weren't handled separately, some extras in the US would be able to be sold to someone expecting them to come from the UK, which is a problem on its face, but is also a nightmare from a taxes/shipping-rate point of view. To make the website do this, we'd need to either create a third item - "Add-On (Int'l Shipping Option)" or something - in order to track its inventory separately. But how many people do you think would get that wrong? The alternative is that we have another whole website, like on the BioWare and PopCap stores, where you have to know to toggle your site preference by clicking an icon in the header, and then it's set in a cookie, but if you don't explicitly do this, you don't get access to the UK inventory. Oh, and this store would only have one item in it, because we don't have other Dead Space gear in the UK at this time, so you'd have to jump through that hoop a couple times to reset yourself from being locked into that second store so you could see the other Dead Space (or etc) stuff we're going to put out....
So, yes, our international distribution needs some work before it's practical for you guys (or us, really). The good news is that we're exploring a lot of different options here, and are working really hard to get it under control (someone's coming in for a meeting about some of this later today). But we definitely couldn't work it out in time for it to matter for this project.
If anyone has a lot of experience with this, or has bought from US companies that have a less painful process, PM me with some details and we'll track down everything we can....
ps: ryan thanks for your replies, very very awsome. Wish more companies would take the time to do this!

This is tricky, on account of how much money the publishers invest in these games. While I think it would be incredibly valuable to do that, I don't know if it would be possible to solicit ideas without essentially leaking information about whatever deal we have to do one well ahead of time.
I'd love to talk to everyone here about general things that they like and dislike. Or if you guys wanted to speculate publicly about possible CEs we could do based on what games we already have stores for, I would read those and chime in vaguely wherever I could, but it's very sticky ground.
At the very least, I'd love to work out some exclusive content for you all, in terms of maybe announcing the next one here first, or working out an interview you could post that has content other media sites wouldn't, or getting someone an early sample to post an exclusive unboxing or something....

Thanks for your reply, i really see its much more difficult to do than it seems, but great to hear you guys are at least thinking it all through!
On a second note, i think it would be really great to have an exclusive unboxing/interview/reveal or something like that. Would be very awesome if something like that would be possible!
For me personally it would be also very interesting to see how you come up with a CE, how do you determine what you will include. And maybe to see items/idea's that didnt make the cut or see the prototype of items you worked on...stuff like that is super interesting.

Ryan, thanx for your answers as well.
Regarding international orders, ofcourse some extra charges are acceptable under any countries' laws.
The thing you should do, is under any circumstancies DO NOT use any express shipping option from companies like UPS, DHL, FEDEX.
In many countries they charge not only the taxes that expected by law, but also some other handling fees that are almost what you pay for the item!!!
If i'm not mistaken XPO International are partners with USPS, so if you use the simpliest method of shipping, then we receive the items from our local post office with no problems and no additional charges that are not expected.
With XPO I never had any problems, except for some cheapest items, I have bought the CE of The Art of the Mass Effect Universe which was around $100 if i recall correctly.
Furthermore, I have tons of orders from amazon.com, videogamesplus.ca, american ebay sellers etc and when they use standard shipping options, I never have a problem.
In addition to that you should check out AmazonGlobal program, which gives you the opportunity to pay in advance an import fee and what you see in the checkout is the final paypent. They probably have a deal with the courier companies.
I understand that amazon is huge, so another example is the Irrational store which have the same option, prepaid import fees while they use DHL as a carrier and an express shipping option with standart cost of $35.

Yeah, UPS, DHL or Fedex are a nightmare for international customers, sometimes their handling fees cost more than the product itself (200% more in some cases).
USPS all the way

I ordered mine yesterday so it looks like I just got in on this in the nick of time!!! I originally ordered with the game but money being as tight as it is I cancelled and reordered the add-on.
I've been replaying though DS2 in anticipation and I must say it's a great franchise.

Hey there Ryan,
Been checking out all the posts you have made and I'm impressed at all the great lengths you are going to to help out the members of this community and collector's in general. You are who a lot of PR rep's should be taking notes from. Picked up the Dev-Team add-on and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival already. My KOA edition arrived heavily damaged as well. Well of course that's in the eye of the beholder huh? As collector's on here when it's damaged it could be a dent/scratch, a corner bent in. . . or mauled by a bear. Who knows. But since we are all truly collector's on here when a product arrives damaged it's heartbreaking because the term "mint" makes us salivate. hehe I'll be interested to check out the packaging as well and looking forward to future releases through Treehouse.
At the very least, I'd love to work out some exclusive content for you all, in terms of maybe announcing the next one here first, or working out an interview you could post that has content other media sites wouldn't, or getting someone an early sample to post an exclusive unboxing or something....
I would love to help you out in this area. I mean come on! For selfish reasons why wouldn't I want an early release?!? That's a no-brainer. But I actually do have a youtube channel called ElectronicElation
(http://www.youtube.com/electronicelation)
It's a little bit popular and have done unboxing's before.
(Example unboxing vid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcM3yTtMdeM
Would LOVE to do one for anything you wanna throw my way or let me know if I could help in any other ways in this regard and would of course not mind doing it to shamelessly bring CE.org into the spotlight/Treeehouse. :)

I heard about this by reading about it here, so I asked around. Apparently we sold them ten units at the request of some EA folks. We often sell them some stock of limited items, as they're a good partner and respected store, but I hadn't heard about this one until after it was done.

Officially sold out!
I'm sure we'll still have some cancellations, so there's a good chance a few will turn up back in the store at odd intervals. I'm not generally involved in that during my normal daily routine, but if I hear ahead of time that we're about to realease a couple more, I'll post here if that would be of interest to anyone that wanted one but didn't get one yet....
Thanks to everyone for your questions and interest. I'm really hoping this turns into a big success, which means we'll have more chances to do them in the future, and hopefully with your help they'll just keep getting better.
I'll stick around and lurk, so if you have any other specific questions you want answered, I'll try to do my best to answer them. I'll also make sure to start a brainstorming thread if anyone wants to talk about what does and doesn't make a good CE.
Thanks again, everyone. This has been a lot of fun, and I'm very curious to know what you all like and dislike about the final product when you get it, too.
