No more club nintendo after sept 2015 [Archive]

Yeah, even though we haven't gotten much from NOA, its been a neat little bonus to get some Nintendo merchandise... very sad about it leaving too!

I've got thousands of coins worth of games I haven't registered as I usually only register enough to get platinum -- I wonder if I should hold on to those for the next "rewards program" or if its going to be completely revamped so much so that the old codes will be invalid? :think:

Oh, saw the article about NOA too. Guess its time to register all those games - I know what I'll be doing for the next few evenings. Sad I missed that Zelda 3DS case this time around though. Will have to pick one up on eBay.

They DID say that they're going to be releasing some exclusive physical rewards though, so hopefully I'll have enough coins for whatever big/nice thing they offer!

And I have just under 1000 coins (I'll have over with the MM 3DS XL and LE). Should I just throw them at whatever now or hold on to them? I have no idea if 1000 coins is a lot or not.

EDIT: DAMNIT. I just read I can't register stuff released after 1/20 (today). I am 240 coins away from 2015 platinum (and 40 coins away from 1000). I was totally going to use the Majora's Mask stuff to get to platinum for the year.

Damnit.

Yeah, apparently we won't be getting any coins in the new3DS XL it seems. I wonder how we'll be able to register the new consoles for warranty purposes too? Also curious how they'll reward "loyalty" in the future if they're not going to include codes in games anymore?

I'd like to know all this stuff, too.

I might have to go out and buy a new game so I can get at least 40 coins. I do still need Wind Waker HD, but I was holding out until I found a decently priced copy of the LE...

Not sure what I got, but I may have a duplicate of a game or two with unused codes. If I find one, I'll PM you with it. I know I had Xenoblade and Zelda TP LE Bundle codes duplicated - just not sure where I put them.

sadly the US version shuts down even sooner than Europe..and the "club Nintendo" coins can't be used in the future If you don't register and hold on to them.

Bah! >.< I saw the news from NoA for this and never thought it would happen for us too. :( Guess I'll have to dig out all my console codes that I've been squandering then and get them registered. Apparently more items will be released on CN Stars catalogue between now and September though, so do I wait and see what gets released or just grab anything I can afford!? >.<

Bastards. :( I'm really gutted that they're doijg this. That does explain why my Ambassador N3DS didn't come with a VIP code though. :(

Also, the irony that I'm complaining about them actually bringing something decent over here is not lost on me. Wonder if I should try and sell my Japanese one on eBay now in expectations? Having the other Zelda soundtracks in US format would bother me not to have this one too... :scratch:

Yeah I'm happy about it, just wish Europe/North America had released it back in 2013, or at least when Japan got it.

I'll sell my two Japanese copies right now in favor of even the EUR version, simply for the English text. If the US gets it too then I'll sell the EUR version after that. Region priorities. :roll:

The EUR version is missing the OBI or whatever that thing's called though.

Yeah, was definitely hoping for the A Link Between Worlds OST. Got the 3DS XL pouch and the game card case. I like the messenger bag but I don't collect that kind of thing and don't have a need for one. And the puzzle...meh.

Yeah, but that's why I usually end up missing things because I wait and they sell out. Was able to get the bag but site is down again it seems. I've still got probably 500-800 coins I haven't had a chance to redeem yet (and some that look like they just expired) so hopefully I'll get a chance later today.

Just saw the "these are ALL the items" blurb on their site. That's somewhat reassuring. Should make it easier to order without fear of new items going up. Now its just a matter of what will sell out first or show up on ebay first. My usual poster-guy who sells me all the poster sets doesn't have enough coins for the v2 Smash set which I really want, but I have a feeling that'll be on ebay and sell out slower than the other zelda items. So just a question between the puzzle and the drawstring pouch and possibly the 3DS case I guess...

Edit: finally decided on the puzzle, but can't order it now :( Stupid Wario image showing up! :rant:

Read elsewhere that someone spoke to a Nintendo Rep and they said the new CN items with 2+month delivery time is because they haven't made the items yet and are waiting on orders through CN to determine run-size. Not sure if that means they won't have a cut-off where they "sell out" or not, but at least sounds like there will be more than their usual "limited item" run size.

Also, not sure how much I'll have after all the post-play surveys come in, but if I've got enough extra I'll let you know. Would be happy to trade for a CN Europe item :)

So far this would seem to be the case. After 2+ days of server overload they still haven't sold out. Now it says:

So for once I don't think they'll sell out of anything soon. :clap:

For resale value, the Jigsaw Puzzle or Messenger Bag. Be sure to keep them sealed, and retain the original inserts and packaging materials.

Fuck. Just redeemed my gift for DKC Tropical Freeze and my Wii U doesn't have enough free space to download it. It's 11.3 GB, more than 1/3 of the Wii U's built in capacity. Now I have to buy a fucking external HDD before Club Nintendo disappears.

the Nintendo direct said there will be some upcoming celebrations of the 30th anniversary of Mario..i would of loved to have some anniversary logo'ed swag and exclusives of off club Nintendo..so sad to see it go and so far from what I've read on-line the replacement is just all digital bonuses and coupons :(..I really hate this trend, now even the newer release games for PS4 etc, don't even bother with the little white paper insert, now you have to pull out the cover and read it printed on the backside..i wish we had petitions demanding at least Nintendo of America doing some sort of physical goods club Nintendo or at least start petitions demanding the return of video game manuals...o well..the glory days are behind us I suppose.

They have sites where you can start online petitions, and if you get it out there they can (and do) make a difference at times, but not sure if there's enough demand for what you're saying (or if Nintendo would do anything about it). I'm totally with you on the inclusion of a "manual" though -- probably my #1 complaint (and that's saying a lot) about modern games. Even Nintendo has cheaped out on this -- most of the 3DS games now just have a quick folded pamphlet as opposed to a nice manual with artwork and such (which I LOVE looking through in my older games). Its a shame really.

Disappointed honestly.
They said that they'd fill up the awards for points so you could spend them if you haven't found anything yet, I've got few codes I can't even use anymore for no reason (didn't purchase these after they announced this whole thing) and the gifts you can get are not at all interesting.. Disappointed. Really hoped to get something nice out of it.
I don't care for downloadable games.

Oh, and that whole Elite thing isn't even a thing here in Benelux. Thanks Nintendo. As usual, it feels like we're left out on things.

got mine a couple of weeks ago IIRC. was about what I thought it was. It feels like one of those cheap recycled shopping bags you can get at the stores. Definitely not a quality "messenger bag".

Also, called several GS's today regarding that adventure pouch set and no one seems to have it in stock, also the website now says 5/1/15 as the release date, so not sure about it. Anyone get theirs yet?

Yikes! Call them and see if you can get a replacement. So the puzzle packaging is an envelope, not a box? Finding one of these on eBay in good condition will be pretty difficult I imagine.

Yeah, I completely feel you on this. I can only imagine how those who paid scalper prices on ebay for it feel as well. Normally I'd take a physical good over a digital one any day of the week -- but I actually think I would've preferred to get 4 Zelda games or something with the coins I spent on this instead!

Wow. That is really absurd and pretty scummy. I could've purchased 2 or 3 extra VC games for that -- I doubt they'll do much if you call them either since I don't think they can give you more coins. Maybe they'll credit a free game or something though? I'm going to give them a call later this week if I get a chance... that's just annoying!

I've been trying to collect all the Nintendo coins over the years (an expensive hobby actually), so that coin should be good -- but that lamp looks amazing and I've also been trying to get all those trophies (for a fair price!). Man, I should've just moved overseas when I had the chance! :swoon:

Yeah, I think I'm just going to buy the lightning cup online now and pay the crazy ebay prices, because it likely will only get higher after people see it missing from the roster.

I'm hoping a friend can help me get a few of them now while they're available. But still waiting on an email/message back.

The stars expire from my understanding. Maybe they expired? You might be able to contact customer service and see what they can do? I've occasionally had them be nice and do something like that for me, though obviously YMMV.

Yeah, the prices went quite high on a few of them. Mainly the 2 I was still wanting... -_- The Leaf and Special Cup. I'm glad I was able to get them and I didn't have to spend too much on them. I opened a few of my games which I wasn't playing and topped the rest up with ebay purchase of points cards. :D Spent about £25~. :v:

I'm wondering why the Lightning cup is missing from the catalogue though, since it was advertised to return by popular demand... o.0 Maybe it was on there, but sold out? :shrug: Hopefully you can get hold of some of them. :D They're very nice and definitely worth having. :D Next thing to look at is a display case for them, so I can have them out. ^o^

As Knight said, perhaps some of them have expired. :S I had quite a few expired points codes when I was registering them. >.< It was frustrating as hell!! >.< I can't see you being able to get them back as it is in the T&Cs for CN and they do send you a monthly email which lets you know if you have points expiring that month... :S

Don't forget though, you can only register games once per account and consoles twice. SO you can register say, 2 3DS consoles AND 2 3DSXL consoles. :D Consoles give the best yield I think it's 750 points for a 3DS console and 1000 for Wii and Wii U. :v:

Also years ago, my favourite past time was going into the local GAME, Gamestation and CEX stores and raiding the pre-owned game boxes for the code cards, since they never used to take the manuals and other literature from the game boxes. lol I was a teenager then with no morales and not a lot of money. :P Got my Gold Zelda TP statue almost as a freebie! :v:

As I am a member of these boards, it may not come as a surprise to you that I can be quite anal about minor things that may not be an issue to most people. :ghey:

Today's culprit for my nit-picking is the Mario Kart 7 Trophies that were re-released on the Nintendo Stars Catalogue. Since the trophies have recently come back up on the stars catalogue, I went ahead and purchased a Leaf and Special Cup to complete my collection. As expected these trophies are reprints of the originals. Since the original release was numbered, as expected the new release has come with a different serial number on. What I didn't expect was the trophy to look obviously different when displayed. >.<

In this instance I am referring to the Special cup. I have taken some pictures for reference:

The sticker size on the boxes are different. The Larger sticker being the new Trophy. The small sticker for the old trophy.

Next, the base of each trophy, besides having year dates, the sticker colours are different, with the new one being gold and the old being white.

Now the most noticeable difference, the colour. >.< The colour of the new trophy is significantly darker than the old one. You can't see it all to well on the picture, but the new trophy has a Orangey-gold colour to it, unlike the old one which is a yellow-gold colour.

This might not bother some people, but for those who would like a full set, I found that with the reprint Special cup, you can see the difference in the shade of gold compared to the rest of the trophies. It actually looks quite odd, imo... :S Here's a pic I posted before...

Thanks. That really stinks about the color difference. Its not really "gold" looking -- its more "bronze-y" which is sad since the old ones look so much better. I imagine it'll be that case with ALL of the new ones (which I am getting) which is kind of sad. Original ones may go up in price or maybe down now that there'll be more out there. Who knows. Either way, sad that they are different coloring. The labels and stickers being different is good for people who wanted their OG ones to stay distinct, but the gold-color changing is not good for people who liked the originals and couldn't get them other than eBay reseller prices :(

Yeah, it does suck about the difference in the gold colour. You're right, it is more of a bronzy colour.

Thankfully I was lucky enough to snag the original Special Cup off ebay for a fair price. The leaf cup doesn't look too bad, but I'm having a hard time finding a 1st Ed leaf cup. >.< Did they reprint the lightning cup in the end?

That's REALLY strange! Did you only ever buy preowned games and from the same Gamestop? Maybe an employee there (or a customer) pilfered all the CN inserts if so? Only way that could happen unless you purchased only the few games that didn't come with coins.

This was mainly in instances where they never had display boxes for games. This gave employees opportunity to swipe the codes from the boxes. Thankfully they do this anymore.

I would guess that 90% or better of my DS games were purchased used, and a good chunk of the used ones came from GameStop. And yes, all of the GameStops in my area did then and still now gut every game case. I use to know a GameStop store manager who bragged about the fact he and his employees never had to pay for Xbox Live because they had an infinite supply of 3-month subscription cards from new games they'd gutted. I can only remember getting two games in all these years from GameStop that were actually factory sealed, and both were games I'd pre-ordered.

It's also possible that many of the games I bought may have never had club Nintendo points as I rarely bothered with 1st party Nintendo titles.

Now the 3DS is a different story, only one or two games I have for it were bought used, but I must confess I never checked the paperwork included to see if they have point.

And there's also the issue that I don't know the status of my Nintendo account as I believe it may have been banned for getting caught up in a rather heated debate/argument on the forums back in 2004 concerning wether or not the DS stylus was phallic and raising the odd-ball question of if the DS was aimed solely at a male audience... that raged for almost a whole day before Nintendo began banning accounts over the hundreds of posts the topic was generating and I can't recall if I ever logged back in to see if mine was banned or not over that idiocy.... wonder if I still have any of that topic saved on an old Windows 98 data back-up somewhere, hmmm.

Well if 10 people gave you a 250 star code you'd be halfway there...I can't imagine anyone would have a spare 5000 points knocking around, especially this late in the day.

That's REALLY strange! Did you only ever buy preowned games and from the same Gamestop? Maybe an employee there (or a customer) pilfered all the CN inserts if so? Only way that could happen unless you purchased only the few games that didn't come with coins.

I worked at Gamestop for a bit to help out a buddy who was a store manager and I can confirm that, yes, employees would swipe the club Nintendo codes out of the used cases at every turn. One of the guys I worked with even told me to "put aside any codes that come in during my shift."

Ah, Gamestop.

Minor perks for rubbish paid jobs if you ask me, in the shop I worked at we got a few promos here and there so I don't see the issue unless there had been a 2 graded approach when buying the games (ie you got more to include the cards).

Thanks so much! Yeah it really is sad it's closing, but I suppose they probably don't think it's worth it, partly because it'll be costing them money, and partly because hardly anyone has redeemed codes prior to now when we're all panicking that it's ending :rotf:

Yeah, same thing happened with the US site. Most of us never redeemed those codes I think because we were always waiting for that next "big" thing (that never came). I had YEARS worth of codes and thousands of coins that had expired simply due to time I guess. Sounds like the same thing was happening over there too (except you guys got much better physical items).

Still haven't heard anything about what they're replacing their loyalty program with though. I loved how they used to send you cool things for registering a game early (like Zelda feather styluses and such). Most of my Nintendo games end up sitting sealed for awhile due to backlog, but I'm interested to see if we'll have to play them by a certain date or something going forward (though I guess renters or people who borrow them could still take advantage of that). :shrug:

from what I read the new rewards will be DIGITAL only going forward..like "DLC" content format...instead of getting DLC from Nintendo via preordering a game, you will buy a game, register it, and do the survey and get DLC content that way..i can't see that happening with every first title game, but it maybe something as little as a "color variation" of a character outfit, or a "bonus level" or skins..also there will be cross promo's allegedly, with other "Nintendo approved" vendors..like register 5 games and get $5 off your next Pizza hut order, etc..this is just from what I read on-line with some interview of one of the Nintendo higher ups..who was saying "digital rewards" will be offered, and "cross promotional activities" etc. but no more, physical items is what I got from it.
