Today, 2K Games and Gearbox Software have announced that there will two limited edition sets for the upcoming game Borderlands 2. The two special editions offering varying amounts of collectible and in-game bonus items.

First up is the Deluxe Vault Hunter's Collector's Edition (£64.99 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC) which includes the following:

Yes, we're very aware of that, that's why I rarely support local games here [as many elite others on this large island], it's even cheaper to import it from the UK especially for a $30 game after a month or so...plus, no dlc incompatibility issues :)

so it kinda defeated the whole thing about COA. If it was truely limited number for all platforms in total then it would be more fitting to have a certificate of authencity. Say for all platforms there should be a certain amount of copies.

Well, that's kind of the norm with consoles and any CE that spans regions. It's understandable that each region is going to have a certain number made. So technically if there are 1000 in existence, yes, there are 1000 of that particular item, since there would be 1000 NTSC-U copies, 1000 PAL copies, etc.

Obviously it's not going to be on par with something like the Dead Space Ultra Edition, where it was only released for ONE region. On the other hand, this edition looks MUCH more impressive than the DS:UE. When the DS:UE came out, you wouldn't believe how many people were seriously saying "Yeah, what the hell's the use? That's an overpriced, chintzy edition with a nice box. That's it." It's nice, but it's not very impressive at all; it's just rare.

Hopefully this one is at least limited to a few thousand in each region. There's a difference between something being "limited and numbered" and actually being limited and numbered. Look at the CE guide for Final Fantasy XIII-2. Oh snap, it's limited! ... to 250,000 copies. Limited, right.

This has made my entire year. I will soon be complete once September comes. I am so happy, that even if every other game due to release this year was cancelled by some insane force of nature, I would be content with ONLY Borderlands 2. <3

This is one huge collector's dream that's not overly priced [imo] and a small scale model of the loot chest is such an awesome creation!! <3 Forget Bloops2 and Halo4gotten...THIS is the end of year CE to have! Even Bioshock was too scared to come out and play this year without a CE :lol:

ShopTo shipped my ME3 CE in a jiffy though :( Luckily it arrived okay (despite the postie forcing it through my door!) but it then fell apart when I opened it (no harm done though, bit of paper glue fixed it up :D)

Just worries me a little incase they don't package bigger CEs well, as that's the only thing I've ever ordered from them.

I just placed and order and I haven't been charged for it, I haven't even heard of any changes to their policy towards pre-orders and payments for it. As far as I know, of all the years I've been shopping there, they only take payment upon despatch for your pre-orders, unless that particular order contains items that are readily in-stock, then they just take money for what can/will be shipped shortly.

Btw, amazon did not have the Loot Chest available for preorder until this week, Australia was the very first to take preorders a few days after announcement and none of the US had offered it yet, I've been checking on a daily routine :P

I preordered today.Just so you realize, when you pickup a game from a physical store, like Gamestop, remember that that game had to be shipped first to Gamestop warehouses, then to Gamestop individual stores. Two shipping experiences for that game already. It's the same for amazon. It has to come from the manufacturer, to amazon, then to customer. 2x shipping. Often times, I find the employees at Gamestop stores care very little for how the handle games; be it a small book style limited edition or a huge edition like this upcoming BL2 Chest.

If we are talking amazon and gamestop only here, the best source to get your games, where they will least likely be damaged is from gamestop.com (http://collectorsedition.org/forums/gamestop.com) (delivered NOT local store pickup).

I say this from personal experience of which I have a lot of. Just never forget that even though your picking up an item in a store, that item had to go through several shipping experiences already which means it's just as likely to have been damaged, if not more so because the empoyees are usually NOT collectors themselves, just gamers. The only real benefit to picking up in store is you get the item faster than delivery. That's it.

^this. This would have been an AWESOME Legendary edition. I'm actually really disappointed that we're stuck with a shitty Limited Edition this time. I mean, fair enough, I'm still getting it, already got it preordered.

But, I did truly want a Legendary, and am very sad it is not happening :(

A Cortana statue, or a Master Chief statue on a nice base (similar to Halo Reach Legendary, but with Master Chief, and alone so larger) or a nice diorama of MC in battle with an enemy or SOMETHING.

They did this with RE5, it may not as been as expensive but it was still pretty cool...it would of made me enjoy RE5 more with how disapointing it was

I haven't ruled out the possibility that we may still receive a Black Ops II Prestige Edition or Halo 4 Legendary Edition. They haven't announced them yet, but they also haven't made a press release (that I know of) stating that these wouldn't be available...

I think Assassin's Creed 3, Halo 4, Black Ops II, and Borderlands 2 will be the big releases later this year - Compared to 2011, I think it's a pretty quiet year for big CE releases!

i wonder if a retailer has to take a loss(ie less profit than if edition was stocked at various online stores) to gain exclusives?
like when supermarkets sell at a loss to get you in their store, i know its not the same, but in theory the online retailer will get a larger customer base for the futre and advertising base.

A few years ago they didn't charge upfront. I think they did this because credit cards are very rare here in Germany. So they had to offer bank transfer at least which is the most common method to pay here in Germany and it's free. But I think many people placed orders and never payed for them. So they changed it to immediate payment :(
