Default Club Nintendo Mario Kart Trophy question(s)

Hiya, just going through my collection and setting up a spreadsheet of details and valuations. Whilst flawed I'm using eBay as a 'thumb in the air' however I recall there were 2 editions of these Trophies, I believe the first edition has larger stickers on the box - can anyone confirm?

Also - is the Lightning one a bit rarer or something because I can't find any on eBay.

Man, I wish I had managed to snag a full set before they were pulled

The second edition tropies have a larger sticker on the box and the gold colour of the trophies is slightly darker with a bit of an orangey colour to it. I will go through my pics later and see if I have some comparison pics. I remember highlighting it on here that there was a slight colour variance. Also, there was not a second edition of the Lightning cup. The year date on the base of the second edition was 2015 as well, if I recall. The sticker colour on the bases of the second edition trophies was also a different colour. Lots of ways to tell! ;P

You're in luck...

First Edition

Second Edition

It's hard to catch on camera, but the second edition ones were definitely darker.

1st (2013) on Right, 2nd (2015) on Left

I can confirm that the same is for the Mushroom and Special cups. It bothered me that much that I replaced all my 2nd Edition ones with 1st Ed.

cheers, I recall the thread - tried looking but no joy (mind you I'm a bit rubbish search for stuff lol).

So the Lightning one may be more rare then - wonder why there was no 2nd edition on that one...personally I really like it.

Yeah, the lightning cup was constructed differently and came in 2 pieces, may have been the reason for not doing a second run. I'll see if I have a pic of the lighting cup. I've update my above post with some pics for reference for you.

Special Cup

For shows.

So with the Lightning cup, it comes in 2 separate pieces. The base and the "glass effect" plastic bit with the lightning in.

As I said, it may be the reason why they didn't do a second run of this one.

cheers, fantastic pictures - very helpful!

I agree with why the Lightning cup may not have had a 2nd edition.

So we have 1548 of the 1st editions and 2096 of the 2nd edition or just 548 of the 2nd edition (I notice both your 2nd edition numbers are higher than 1548 so it seems a continuation)

I think I prefer the 1st edition lighter gold personally, how about you as you have them 'in the flesh'?

Also what's the larger trophy? Are they both called special cup?

Edit - FTR I would have done the same - complete set all the same edition, my OCD would be too much

I definitely prefer the lighter gold colour. I actually got rid of all the second edition cups I had. They were collected to complete my collection, only to then not be happy with them and I ended up paying a premium for the 1st ed ones on ebay and getting rid of the 2nd ed ones while the price was high on them.

Regarding the numbers, I have no clue. Unless one of us gets hold of a 2nd ed cup with a number lower than the print run of the 1st ed, I guess we'll never know. lol

The large trophy I won in a competition. It is labelled as "Special L" on the box. I have only seen 3 different "L" variants. Special, Leaf and Shell. Here's the pics I posted of the Special L cup when I got it with detail of the compo.
