I had no problem actually pushing the feet onto the base and I too had a little paint rub off onto the base, probably from movement during transit.

Best way I found to get the paint off was a simple pencil eraser, took a few rubs and it was off. I wouldn't use anything too harsh on it otherwise it might ruin the plastic.
