Where did we include the Gears 5 one? We don't add Fantasyboxes to our lists (as mentioned on the other thread) since they aren't official.

The only Gears 5 on the list is the Ultimate Edition

Oh well I don’t see FantasyBox going away anytime soon. Their designs are pretty good. But I get why you’d say they aren’t official. Cuz they don’t get support from the Game’s producers

While that is the design, it is a fake. They simply stole design of the original steelbook made by Scanavo with possible intent to deceive.

"Their designs" are not even theirs most of the time. They take others' artwork as they please without permission and print it. It is one thing to provide what is considered "commentary and homage to the game", another thing to steal whatever they want and profit off it. A lot of us here have purchased art prints that were made by independent artist that weren't licensed/official but what fantasybox is doing is beyond all that IMO.

I am convinced that a significant amount of their sales come from the fact that people don't understand that they aren't official. Just a theory based on what a few of them have sold for... Regardless, if you like the designs, of course go for it.

For example this is a fake fantasybox , yet this is not disclosed on the listing. I don't believe it for a second that the 5 people who paid 120$ + tax for this knew what they were getting. They probably thought it was the same as the original which has been selling for ~300-400$ and thought they found a bargain. A lot of their ebay sellers marketed these as "extremely rare" for years and have just recently started adding the word "custom" (likely after a legal issue). Some still don't disclose this.

Happy to continue this under the fake steelbooks thread

The problem is the fakes they make.
You wanna go ahead and make a new case with your own designs and let people know they are custom made? Sure, no problem.

You wanna go ahead and make forgeries of existent expensive ones and sell them as the real thing? Now, thats a problem.

Yeah, as someone who took a break from steelbook collecting for a couple years, and wanted to come back, this was really tough to see. Third party marketplaces seem flooded with counterfeits. It was hard enough being on the hunt for rare steels before. Now it's even harder trying to sift through the fakes.

Like the link sinan posted about the Tlou steels, nothing in that listing suggests it's a fake. It even comes with the german slipcover that amazon.de first shipped them with! Thousands of positive ratings on that seller profile too. If I still needed that steel, I'd have likely bought it at that price thinking I was just getting a deal.
