Yeah, I was also scammed by this guy. He was a pro at it too.

Offered to sell me the item and we agreed on the price. When I asked for his paypal, he asked me to pay him via bank transfer. I refused, considering that I wanted to use my paypal balance to pay for the item.

He then sent me an invoice on paypal. I paid it. 10 minutes later, he refunded me. He then messaged me and said he was trying to refund someone else and had sent me the refund by mistake. He asked me to resend him the money.

He probably thought that I would resend the money to him under payments for friends and family. When I resent it as a business transaction, he said that paypal would hold it for 21 days and he wouldn't be able to ship the item until the money cleared. He asked me to resend him the money under friends and family so he "could ship ASAP".

Considering that he had no feedback and I was already suspicious, I refused and told him I was fine waiting the 21 days for the money to clear. He said ok and claimed he would contact me with a tracking number once the money cleared and he was ready to ship the item. The 21 days passed nearly two weeks ago, but I haven't gotten any message from him since the day I sent him the money.

I filed a claim with paypal a few days ago. Hopefully I get my money back, as it was a fairly significant amount.

Just wanted to post this here as a warning to everyone to not deal with this guy and not to send money via bank transfer or paypal friends and family unless the seller has a great reputation on here already.

Fingers crossed for you mate

For me he wanted to do everything via pm - that's when I got suspicious and why I set up a specific thread and when I paid (paypal for a service) I made it clear what it was for.

He told me he had sent it, I waited 2 weeks - nothing turned up, a couple chaser emails & pms later I just filed for a refund which he did before paypal could.

I strongly advise not buying from new members - and even long term members, please verify who you are dealing with to ensure the account hasn't been compromised.

I also advise anyone who has dealt with this guy leave appropriate feedback...this is why we should ALL use the feedback system

What a load of crap from him... Paypal only holds your money for 21 days when is an Ebay sale and to members with few Ebay sales.
Hope you get your money back

Pretty much the same thing happened to me. I opened a claim with PayPal and got refunded, so you should get your money back. Took about 10 days for the claim to be decided in my favor. Hopeful this scammer will be perma-banned from this forum.

Looks like we have a new Hall of Shame winner.

Joking aside, I'm sorry to hear that we have another scammer in our midst. As always, members should be ever vigilante when dealing with people who they haven't dealt with before on these boards.

Always make use of the feedback system, thats what it's there for and always take into consideration a member's tenure and contribution to the boards.

I hope all that have fallen foul of this member do not lose out. I have been on the receiving end of scammers before and it is not nice.

Take it easy all and best of luck.

I was made aware of this thread just recently. I'm really very sorry to hear about what's happened to the buyers here. If there is anything we can do to aide in any law enforcement or legal matters please don't hesitate to send me a PM.

I really hope paypal pulls through and refunds those of you who made purchases that were never delivered. This is a clear example of why we have always had a rule to "not require that people pay you with the "gift" (aka "family & friends") option".

It's always difficult to know the best course of action with situations like this since we definitely don't want members like this on our site, but an outright ban also removes the only method of contact available in some cases and dashes any hopes of remediation.

To that end I've created a new Usergroup entitled "Marketplace Abusers" and placed denfighter within it. This group is essentially a ban but they are still able to post new comments within their own open marketplace threads, on their "wall" and through PM. This also locks out their ability to edit their posts so they can't change what has been said. Giving them every opportunity to make the situation right while limiting every other forum function as much as possible. It also comes with a clear message under their username "DO NOT BUY FROM THIS USER".

Again if there is anything else we can do to help with this situation please send me a PM. We're also open to any suggestions for how we might help prevent issues like this from occurring in the future.

That would be perfect if all members would actually leave positive/negative feedback after the sale has been completed. Just like eBay, many people neglect or just don't bother to leave appropriate feedback. Even after the other side leaves them one.
