Yea but you could still buy the edition, minus the game and the slip cover for almost half the price a couple months ago (haven't checked to see if it's still in stock)
Although it did sell or Pryor to release date and then Brant cone back in stock after release date

The ACU big box remained in stock until a couple of months after release date

Seems like the best value for money is the Charing Cross edition?

What's the difference between the Big Ben and Charing Cross? Doesn't seem like there's much difference, considering the massive price difference?

Different background with the figure?
Different box?
A lithograph?
A season pass?
A futurepak
a hip flask

Maybe some more? Compare the billet points and the pictures

All that stays the same
A mini art book
The game
A map
An OST

More differences then similarities there

true.

so, different box (hardly worth any extra $$?)
some silly machine extra on the statue (bit of plastic)
lithograph (picture printed on paper)
season pass (will be on sale not long after the game releases)
futurepak (worth maybe $5?)
hip flask ($3.50 made in china?)

really not seeing the value for money there!
on the australia site, there's a whopping $70 difference between the big ben and charing cross edition.

i have gotten the most expensive of every AC edition starting from revelations. the only high-end edition i thought
was good value for money was the black chest (AC4). Unity was a step backwards in value imo. looks like Ubisoft
are trying to maximise profits as of late (and under-delivering).

If we are comparing manufacturing costs then game disc $5, digital version $0
Any box $5
Map $0.5
Mini artbook $1

But since when did any body pays manufacture costs for a brand new retail product?

You have to look at retail prices
Season pass $34.99

That's half your $70 already
Hip flask(assuming its a small 4ozand not a standard/medium size one $10-15. Mediums size being more like $15-25
Lithograph, depending on size, a4 size 13-10 inches with massive white boarders in actual cotton lithographic paper as with all ubiworkshop/ubishop lithographs $15-30 depending on the vibrance and variants in the colour
Statue has more detailing to do as there is more of it, difference there is comparing a $45 statue to a $60 statue. Difference of 15

OK so low retail price estimates
$90 difference

Or heck why not just ask for the whole thing to be sold at manufacturing costs and ignore the overheads likes shipping and handling and processing fees

Edit: all capitalist companies try to maximise there profits while reducing effort

Re edit I forgot the futurepak; what's rrp on one of these? Well they generally gave steel books away for a $5 CA in Canada? Or charged $11.99 US/CA after the turlw had been out for a while so that puts the rrp if contents up to around the 100 AUS mark

fair points.

if unity was anything to go by, we might end up getting the season pass for free
regardless, paying rrp for the season pass is ensuring you get ripped off.

its clear that ubisoft are forcing customers to pay rrp for the season pass if they want the "nicest" edition.

the rest of your prices are fairly accurate from an rrp perspective i guess.

i just don't see the value in:

1. a hip flask (bit random?),
2. another couple of postcards (do not agree on the $15-$30 cost). you could get scans of them and reprint them on similar paper for less than $2. chances are they will be postcard size lithographs as every edition before had the same size (in an envelope). heck, previous editions had MULTIPLE lithographs included, this edition has ONE. (remember unity had a wonderfully framed canvas that actually makes sense, since you can display it as is).
3. difference in statue plastic is tiny. consider the difference between the black flag ship statue and the regular statue. you're talking an entire SHIP of difference. that makes sense, this one doesn't.
4. futurepak i'm sure will be readily available on eBay for peanuts.

not much creativity this time around. as you mentioned, simply less effort for more profits (combined with faster product launches). looks like ubisoft is going the way of call of duty. what a shame.

It doesn't state what size the litho is,I was assuming 10/13 inches not a5 postcard sized, if you look at any lithograph on lithographic paper from other retailers then my estimates fall within the prices they sell

And its not the difference in plastic, its the difference in painted details as each one is done by hand, that's what brings the price of the larger statue up

Also assassins creed already went the way of call of duty about 6 years ago buddy

Yes the hip flask is random but they may just be because we have yet to play the game, just as the music box was random in unity

Also the season pass is an inclusion as the result of a feedback survey carried out after the release of black flag and ac unity wherw the majority of the people who completed the survey asked for the season pass to be included in the higher tier collectors box, so they added it as per the majority vote, yes season pass's are on sale layer on but does anybody actually have insider information why this is? Does Microsoft and Sony waiver there licensing fees/ other fees in order to boost sales? Is it something that ubisoft chooses to do? Or do the platform owners drop the price but then pay ubisoft the same sum as if the content was purchased at full price, which in effect is similar to waivering there fees.
Everything is on a reduced sale price at some point, does that mean it is still proftavle and only worth the reduced sale price or perhaps it is that (in terms of physical items) the stick has to be cleared to make space for other stock

Edit
Not a couple if postcards; a single lithograph

fair points. although the litho looks small to me, like a single postcard, i could be wrong though!

also not sure about the hand painted details? to me it looks like a few gears in the background. hardly an incentive to buy the big ben edition.

also disagree about the assassins creed going the way of call of duty 6 years ago, that's entirely incorrect.
up until black flag, the series was doing VERY well and IMPROVING as per metacritic user scores.
i'd say unity has marked the decline in ubisoft value for money, hence my post about this edition, being a marked reduction
in value over previous editions.

AC4 black flag black chest edition -> $179.95 AUD including shipping
AC Unity guillotine edition -> $189.95 AUD including shipping WITH FREE SEASON PASS
AC syndicate -> $210 AUD including shipping (with arguably the least value for money thus far)

my points still stands. its simply not worth buying the big ben over the charing cross edition BASED ON THE VALUE OF PREVIOUS EDITIONS.

"Going the way of call of duty" is a term that has many meanings, I took it to mean, anualized releases which started in 2009

Yes its a few gears in the back ground, but thats detailing that needs doing by hand with an airbrush and airbrush people are skilled and not everyone can do it so it justifies the extra 15 or so AUD cost

The picture of the lithograph is blurry and tiny as it is yet to he voted on as to which (of a possible three) will be included in the edition and if you are going by the size of the item in the image then it is A6 size which is HALF the size of all the previously included postcards, take a post card and fold it so the too shortest edges are touching and that's the size represented in the digital mockup, I do not think that is to scale

Yes the prices have slowly been increasing but also many people have been saying that the quality of the figures has slowly been improving too

True the quality of the statues has improved.
You may have convinced me to go for the Big Ben edition once we get more info about the size of the lithograph!
