There was no code inside the case of the steelbook of the special edition and the demo is just available 1 or 2 weeks before the release of the game.

Yeah, this is correct. There is no code, you press square on the menu screen or something.

lol way to work the system

Exclusive Demos like that are more or less pre-order bonuses to encourage original retail sales

The fact that they put it on the disc itself kind of defeats that strategy

It would be but I've found out you have launch the demo from the disc.
