The Top 5 Items In Your Video Game Collection
Hey everyone,
There are different types of video game collectors, but I think most will agree that it's about quality in a collection, not about quantity. Quality can be in rarity, price, gameplay, memories you have with a game or the way you acquired it for your collection. In this video i showcase the top 5 items in my collection and explain why I picked them. With this video I hope to inspire other collectors to make a (video) reply in which they show their top 5 items, with the story behind them. The video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeYo2tuqQm8 I'm looking forward to see your replies!

Re: The Top 5 Items In Your Video Game Collection
Great insight on what drives you to collect and the reasons why, for me its got to be something i like firstly but rarity gets to me also. i dont just buy any old rubbish, you could say im a fussy buyer the first questions i begin asking is condition and completeness, the price comes last.
Definitely Quality before Quantity Ill have to think about a top 5, im as indecisive as i am fussy |

Re: The Top 5 Items In Your Video Game Collection
I agree, quality is important over quantity, but I guess we all have our "filler" titles for whatever reasons (usually because they were too cheap to pass up).
Personal "guilty pleasures" are also a factor which drives collectors to buy what they do. For example, I love collecting the Cooking Mama series of games, despite ridicule from fellow collectors, but I don't care because I actually like playing the games and like collecting them just as much. Whilst they may not hold any real value to them from a collector's point of view, they hold value for me because these are games I enjoyed playing. Hmm, perhaps I shouldn't have admitted all of this. Lol! I own games I bought because I enjoyed them. I own games I bought because they were cheap and in good condition. I also own games I bought purely because they were rare and worth a lot of money, despite the fact that I would never have given them a second look otherwise. It's a mixture of these three things that makes every collector's collection unique As you guys may already know, I am obsessive about condition, and I pride myself on the condition of my collection as well as the quality of the titles I own. If I own any sports titles, for example, it's usually for a good reason, and each has a a story behind why I have it - Such as FIFA 2001 because it's an infamous "scratch & sniff" disc, or all of those crappy Dreamcast sports titles because I am aiming for a complete set of Dreamcast games. |

Re: The Top 5 Items In Your Video Game Collection
Hard...I've gone for a list that offers the best for that game - ie I have Uncharted 3 in both US CE & UK EE - it would be silly to mention the games twice in a list of 5...
5 - Dead Rising Zombrex Edition - gotta love that pen! 4 - Dead Island Steelbook - best stickerbook ever! 3 - Ico & SotC PS3 CE - the art is stunning 2 - MGS HD Ultimate Edition (zavvi) - the PS3 steelie is lush! 1 - Uncharted 3 UK Explorer Edition - so glad I managed to buy this back |

Re: The Top 5 Items In Your Video Game Collection
5. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Signature Edition
- It's a really nice edition, its a really rare edition and what makes it special is that it's one of the few very rare editions that I bought new directly, making me the first and only owner. 4. Bayonetta Austrailian Climax Edition with Scarborough Fair Replica - The USA never got a Bayonetta CE, and while I had never played the game when I first saw the Scarborough Fair gun replica I had to have it. My favorite CE items are when they take an object from the game world and make it real, especially if it's life sized. I hunted down the gun with the original box and packing, and then later picked up a matching Australian copy of the Climax Edition to "complete" it. 3. Fallout 3 Survival Edition - When this was announced I ordered it from Amazon.com, still relatively "new" to collecting I foolishly CANCELED my order thinking "this is just the CE with a stupid clock for an extra $60, I don't need a $60 clock"... (I still have the email with my cancellation confirmation... ugh). Of course it turned out to be a really nice package, and a really rare package, and after playing the game Fallout became one of my favorite franchises... so I eventually hunted down a used copy at more than twice the original price, and the clock doesn't work, but it's still one of my favorite items. 2. Deadspace Ultra Limited Edition - This is another one where I had a chance to buy brand new, and said "I can't justify spending $150 on a CE". Of course a couple of years later and I gladly paid 3 times as much for a used copy... As with most people who own copies of this game it's one of the most highly regarded CEs one can own, super rare, numbered, loaded with signatures and a really nice package for a really great game make it a prized piece of any collection. 1. Rez (Kanzentousui Set) (PS2 [NTSC-J] - Rez is my favorite game of all time, and this is one of the rarest CEs from the PS2 era (only 500 made)... two of my passions combine to make the holy grail of my collection, I also love the package design... If I was ever forced to get rid of my collection I would still keep this game. I bought the one and only copy I've EVER seen for sale ANYWHERE. you'd have to pry this out of my cold dead hands Interesting story behind this particular copy, it was owned by the Journalist who actually came up with the name "Rez" and the game was given to him directly by the games creator... I'm the 2nd owner Still missing: I really only have 1 game left that I really want and that's the Dreamcast NTSC-J CE for Space Channel 5 Part 2, SC5 is one of my all time favorite franchises, and the Dreamcast is one of my all time favorite consoles... so I think picking up the CE for that title would be really special. I see them pop up from time to time on eBay, usually between $300-$400, but I haven't been able to bring myself to actually biting the bullet and ordering. If I do ever get one, it will undoubtedly find it's way on this list, probably in the #5 slot. Last edited by twistedsymphony; 02-13-2012 at 04:01 PM. |
