Am I too sensible about receiving damaged games?
So this is something I have been wondering about a little and would like to get some insight on. I sometimes receive games that are damaged (mailman carelessly stuffs it into mailbox, damaging it in the process, or poor packaging etc.).
Often not that badly damaged, however, there is noticeable (and visible) damage to the game case. Today I got another of those and just hit up the seller with a request for a replacement. It's not a steelbook, just a regular game, however it is bent, some part of the foil is missing and in the same location there is damage to the plastic of the game case as if it was dragged over a surface repeatedly. Example of what I mean is here (it's not the game I received today but shows damage that the game also has): https://imgur.com/a/SbqxE9o I'm just wondering right now: Should I have just shrugged it off? |

Re: Am I too sensible about receiving damaged games?
Personally, I would shrug it off. If it's not a Steelbook, it's honestly not worth any money so the damage doesn't de-value the product at all. I keep a few spare game cases around for instances like this and just replace them with a new one if it's damaged (only because if it's on the spine it bugs me to look at in the case)

It would depend on how much i had paid.
If was at a sweet price, that damage (considering is just game case) wouldnt bother me much.

Re: Am I too sensible about receiving damaged games?
It really pisses me off too when a game arrives damaged simply because the sender is too lazy or cheap to use proper packaging. It is something that can be completely avoided. I haven't really had this issue with eBay sellers, moreso Amazon & some other online retailers.
The last game I bought from Amazon arrived with the case curved & looked like a banana, because they use those shitty bubble mailers that give no protection. It went straight back! For this reason & if possible any new games I like to buy from a bricks & mortar store so I can inspect the game before leaving. I'm the same with movies as well. For new items, you expect it to be in perfect condition. Secondhand items, you can expect some issues, not everyone looks after their stuff like us. Re: Am I too sensible about receiving damaged games?
It was around 45 bucks for a new game from a brick and mortar store, although what really annoys me is the fact that I paid an extra 5 Euro for "premium" shipping (stronger packaging and faster delivery both of which were not the case) when I could have just gone for free shipping instead :/

Re: Am I too sensible about receiving damaged games?
I usually buy all my CE from a physical store also and have it shipped in there also. Takes the high amount of risk from the local postal carriers out of my side of the equation. A few times I've gone to pick it up, only to see the box mangled. Needless to say, made them give me a different/better version.

Yeah, that's why buying certain e-retailer exclusives make my anxiety go up as the only option is to have it shipped.

Just way too much to go wrong with the postal service. At least at the brick-and-mortars they're getting a very large amount in at a time so most will be in great shape. |

Re: Am I too sensible about receiving damaged games?
We have a post office box where all our mail goes to which mitigates most of the postie issues, might be an option for you to look into.
