If it's anything like what GAME used to do here, then they gut the game boxes to put on display and keep the contents in drawers behind the counter. This was mainly in instances where they never had display boxes for games. This gave employees opportunity to swipe the codes from the boxes. Thankfully they do this anymore.

I kicked up a stink in HMV before because they didn't have any sealed copies of a new release title as the staff had gutted all the boxes. I think it was for Rayman Legends when they had the steelbook... They only do it with the games though...
