i just bought MGS HD Steelbook (PS3 SIZE) on ebay and seller confirm that PS3 = STEELBOOK and XBOX360 = STICKERBOOK

Hope he's right mate. I guess we'll all find out on Friday week. Of course, if that wally at Konami had done a proper unboxing he'd have done BOTH versions and then we wouldn't be having this discussion :scratch:

Anyway, it's about time that publishers made the distinction between steel or sticker book in their advertising. Cos a sticker book AIN'T a steelbook :(

That's what I was told and pictures (above) and ebay listings show a proper steelbook. So it could be a case of the LE being sticker book and those steelbooks are singles for some other region.

It seems a shame that what is ultimately the last official konami package for our dear snake is turning out to be such a shambles.

I will certainly think a lot less of Konami if they screw us over. Especially if the UK get screwed over the most. I'm getting fed up with it.

Another thing, if a collectors edition is being sold in one, or specified territories, retailors should not be exporting them. This is more rife in the UK than anywhere else.

Zavvi, HMV and i believe Game[qoute]?? all export these editions leaving us poor Brits to fend for ourselves.

Maybe I'm just bitter but how I would love to buy direct from sites such as futureshop or game.fr in return for our retailers sending abroad. :(

Zavvi have always sucked so this wouldn't surprise me at all but how does a once Worldwide Exclusive Steelbook turn out not even to be a Steelbook? Then create a more limited run for a platform that wasn't even suppose to get anything? Then the "Real Steelbook" turns up as a standalone item and in a completely different region altogether.

my new theory is :)..indeed PS3 AND XBOX360 BOTH will be stickerbooks, the initial run of genuine ps3 steelbooks product was cancelled, and reformatted for this new jumbo boxes, so konami probably decided to disperse the real ps3 steelbooks to specific vendors who expressed interests or hand them to select retailers in obscure places, that cannot or will not be offering the limited edition, and just a standard edition, so they have a "perk" to move regular copies of games, since the original program got "scrapped" konami probably just wrote off the ps3 real steelbooks, and placed in fresh orders for the stickerbooks for these jumbo boxes, and recouped there losses by the original ps3 steelbook run by switching over to stickerbooks...techinically speaking there still made of steel,..just a decal on top of it,..so konami can still claim there "books of steel" so a "steelbook"...of the 4,000 run,..(we all know it's more like 400,000.;))..us 10 or 20 people on these forums complaining is not gonna matter..in fact majority of the people won't care either way,..they'll rip that box right open, wear, wash and launder the shirt, play the game, bang up the stickerbook, and then trade it in..were a small minority of collectors...a dozen e-mails of complaints vs. 10,000 satisfied customers,..konami/zavvi/eb could care less.

Hey peeps. I think I got it.
I now believe, yes the UK have been stitched up. We got a stickerbook whatever format.
Australia gets the steelbook with perhap a few steelies left over that will be distributed elsewhere.
I have just ordered PS3 version from JBHifi, $99.99 each.
Shipping only $13.95.

If by some miracle our ps3 versions are steelbooks, which I now highly doubt. Pictures paint a thousand words. There will be time to cancel JBhifi order. Although at a price a little more than Zavvi's, I wont cancel the JBhifi order.

I believe the european ff13_2 is g1 on all formats in europe. g2 in canada. not 100% sure though. I reckon the ps3 version sold out sooner as its multi region. Unlike the xbox360 version of course. It seems to me that because the description at Zavvi for both formats say "variant" that means stickerbook. The AUS description does not and the pics backup the descriptions in both cases.

Yeah its a good price still. Just the best part of it is not collectable. Anyone with a blank steelbook, a printer and some self adhesive gloss paper can make this stickerbook.

Well I'm sure it won't be that easy to copy - and the quality will obviously not be as high as they will be working with copied material.

I'd also much rather have a 'real' steelbook (esp having now seen the pics)...man the wait is killing me!!

The fact that the set is coming in the same packaging for AUS suggests that they will also receive the stickerbook :shrug: As they are making a set amount worldwide, but not all of them are for Zavvi, so it's highly unlikely that they would alter one item for the AUS customers xx

vhal, I really believe Aus have the steelbook. From the pics there are steelbooks which means there are 4000 somewhere. I reckon 3000 for Australia nd another 1000 that were probably gifted to people by konami.

From what I know and read about. Steelbook take a minimum order quantity of 4000. I might be wrong but I have read this numerous times in different places.

So I presume there are 4000 mirrors edge and 4000 metal gear steelies.

I'm not aware of the limitation or minimum unit production but i find it hard to see a plethora of some of the steelbooks released in the past.

Crysis 2 Nana Edition - only 200 unit for Australia
Soul Calibur IV - a bonus steelbook for pre-orders only! No way that many gamers made a preorder on that game back then
Mortal Kombat KE [UK] which is also identical to the Canadian Futureshop - also very limited

And then you got all those variant front covers for FIFA 12, surely they didn't print 4000 each on those?? :nea:

I think the minimum is 500 (if I remember correctly) but of course, that's to help minimise costs, so obviously some retailers/manufacturers could work out deals with Steelbook.com to make smaller batch quantaties (like what you can do in warehouses) xx

Stores usually take payment anything up to a week before release, so the fact the payment will be taken now is kinda expected, which is also the reason I expect these emails have been sent out (tends to be automated) so probably won't be shipped just yet xx

for a direct comparison they took payment & shipped RE on wednesday - 2 days before release...this is the norm for zavvi, not 1 week - and then when I try to cancel in the morning the ship 2:50 - I'm sorry but that's not acceptable

I think in zavvi's case:
"been informed" = "i'm guessing"
"I confirm" = "I'll just answer whatever so you'll leave me alone"

It's just like an email they sent to me "I confirm that your refund has been processed and your credit card statement will show it in 3-5 working days" then after 1 month I have not received it and when I check again they reply "I can confirm that this has been refunded on xx/xx/xx" and then when I tell them I paid by paypal etc, they finally refund. That's zavvi, nothing they say is 100% :tomato:

yeah, they totally screwed up my RE 3DS order - I had RE:Rev on pre-order and they sent me RE:Mercs - what a pain that was getting sorted...they wanted me to return and wait for a refund I was like "erm, I don't think so - you took funds without permission...let's see what trading standards say" then all of a sudden I got a refund ;)

well no, because on 8th Dec zavvi told us (or led us to believe - whatever you prefer) that they were NOT STICKERBOOKS - hence no need to think about it, until a day or 2 ago when a video surfaces of a stickerbook. We even had (a few days prior to the video) people posting pics of a real steelbook so to be honest it seemed a cert:

4/5 days ago pic of real steelbook confirm what's already been said
2 days ago video shows X360 is a stickerbook

so you can see why we've not thought about it - until 2 days ago there was no real reason to as 'we' were 'informed' it wasn't a stickerbook!

If indeed there is only a stickerbook released, then it'd be better kept sealed to preserve the sticker on it rather than risking it being scratched or peel off.

Every time something goes wrong with my card or my order exceeds the 1kg limit [when I buy multiple items in one order], they just cancel my order and email to say I'll need to make a new order. That was my experience with them in the past, I haven't ordered from them for a long time due to their constant blunders with my orders. They do have some great sale prices and the shipping cost internationally isn't bad at all, but I've just had too many bad luck with them! :S

Some would argue that framing a t shirt that is designed to be worn follows a similar principle to keeping a game box sealed. Its about displaying an item the way you want to and for some having a sealed box in MINT condition is the best way to display

Sealed boxes are just a box to look at, I wouldn't be able to have. collection of just boxes to look at, I like "playing" with my toys lol I like reading artbooks watching bonus DVDs and listening to soundtracks.... even if I one day got hold of dead space ultra edition - if it was sealed I'd open it - to me there's a bigger boundary for me of collecting to enjoy rather than to cash in on at a later date

I was able to cancel my preorder. I had put in my request on Friday and they cancelled it. I think being located in the US was the only reason I was still able to cancel.

I sent them this message:

"Hi, I have the PS3 version of the Metal Gear Solid HD collection Limited edition ordered. I'm worried because I just saw your unboxing video of the 360 version and noticed that it is in fact a sticker book and not a steelbook.

I would put money on Zavvi fucking up my order(and other unlucky folk) and not sending me anything.

problem is I only managed to cancel 1 PS3 order - do I now re-order? then run the risk of russian roulette as to which contains variant and which contains real? it seems it is possible that the initial 4k were real, but then why not just say that and keep it as a '1st edition sold out but we have a 2nd edition which will be different'!?

This is ridiculous. So now we can't actually return the product if we discover the steelbook is not the correct one because, well, we've OPENED the blasted thing! Really hope Zavvi have a blacklash and accept returned orders in this case.

i have cancelled mine and will leave it at that, its still in stock at zavvi anyway so will order at a later date. only thing is what if the first few were steels and the rest stickerbooks?

dlc, it's because even if it is a "Stickerbook" it is still technically a steelbook - still produced by steelbook.com, still a steelbook, only with a sticker artwork rather than printed xx

The bottom pic was taken from the official unboxing video of the Xbox360 version recently released, which was also a UK version though a 'stickerbook' was revealed! :S

That shot of the PS3 version has the BBFC 15 logo on the front of the game case meaning it's UK stock. The cardboard inlay is different to the 360 version and seems to suggest they only made proper steelbooks in G2 size, though that term "Variant" still concerns me..

i actually ordered a ps3 version for a friend the same time as my 360 version, it says awaiting stock pick on ps3 version so cancelled it. yet you can buy ps3 version from zavvi ebay outlet today for same price, silly fookers

I've also got the PS3 version on pre-oder at Zavvi as well as with JBHIFI in Australia.

I wondering if I should cancel the Zavvi order and keep the one with JBHIFI?? All I'm after is a true Steelbook copy of the game and wonder which I should go for?

A steelbook and a stickerbook are both the same general item, both cases made of steel, look exactly the same, it is only the method of which the artwork is on them that is different xx

Steelbook: Artwork printed directly onto the metal.
Stickerbook: Artwork printed onto a sticker, then stuck onto the metal.

simply put - I don't want to risk missing it if it's 'real'!! - I'd hate that word got out that the PS3 version is indeed real and find that zavvi sold out (I know unlikely but possible).

I've missed out on stuff like this before and ended up kicking myself...I'd rather get my fingers a little burnt and have to pay to send them back (worst case).

BTW, I just missed my X360 ones - I wonder, if I don't bother to pick them up will they be sent back to zavvi FoC?

also, I had a gander on ebay, people are begining to list - only the X360 stickerbooks so far
