i'd say the inner mechanics of the statue were compromised by the water, or that they couldn't drain them properly before they could be shipped. On top of soaked boxes, comics and art books, the cost of reprinting and transporting that all might have been too high.

That is what I was thinking too, just curious how they got wet, if someone left them sitting outside or if water somehow got into the warehouse where they were, etc.
