I’ve had 3 separate sources tell me that we can expect a Collector’s Edition for the up coming Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, due out November 11th this year.
No word on if this package will be available for the PS3, or 360, or both, nor any information on pricing or what it will include, only that it will be available.
I’m sure if this rumor is true we’ll see listing for it shortly.

IGN is reporting that the latest issue of the Japanese Gaming publication Famitsu includes details about a Special Edition release of Metal Gear Solid 4 in Japan. Apparently Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be available in 3 flavors when it arrives in stores on June 12th later this year.
The Standard Edition, A Special Edition that includes a Blu-Ray Disc with all of the Metal Gear Solid 4 trailers and behind the scenes footage, and a Premium Edition that is basically the Special Edition bundled with an 80GB PS3. Sony has announced that the US will see a MGS4 bundle as well, though there is no word on whether or not it will be a special edition.
Even if the US does not receive the Special Edition, both the US and Japan share the same region encoding for PS3 games so imported games from Japan will play on USA consoles and visa versa.

The name of this edition of Turning Point: The Fall of Liberty is unclear. In online listings before release it was listed as “Collector’s Edition” However the case itself has no moniker beyond the regular game name. The wrapping around the case did feature a sticker referring to it as a “Special Edition” But the bonus disc and the art book both carried the term “Limited Edition”. Special Edition is probably the most accurate label considering Codemaster’s last release of this type, Clive Barker’s Jericho, carried the “Special Edition” Label, also that is the term used on the outside of the actual case.

Despite the confusion with the name the case is distinctly different than that of the regular edition, while carrying nearly identical artwork the Special Edition comes in a 2 Disc Steel Book Case.

Inside the differences between the two versions further diverge with the inclusion of an alternate history timeline poster, a “Limited Edition” Concept art book, and a Limed Edition DVD which includes a behind the Scenes making of feature as well as the Game’s Soundtrack. In addition to the regular edition disc and manual.

Also included is a reminder that by registering your game you’ll receive a code that will allow you to use an infinite number of grenades in game.

You may recall that those who Pre-Ordered the game through Gamestop also received a Pre-Order pack.
It’s clear that a great deal of thought went into both the Pre-Order Pack and Special Edition, offering high quality items that enhance the experience as opposed to something that was thrown together to make some extra coin, this is further proven by the fact that the Pre-Order pack was free, and the Special Edition is only $5 more than the regular edition.

At the end of this year’s Game Developers Conference, Cliffy B, lead designer of the Gears of War series announced that Gears of War 2 would be arriving in Stores this November.
Full Details can be found on the official Gears of War 2 webpage.
While not specifically mentioned in the announcement the webpage provided placeholder artwork as well as pricing data for a Limited Edition of the game. Gamestop and Amazon.com are both taking preorders for the Limited Edition at $69.99 (USD).

The Limited Collector’s Edition of the first Gears of War ended up being a difficult item to find, even on release day. I would highly recommend getting your pre-orders in if you’re interested in the Limited Edition of Gears of War 2.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will be arriving in stores next month in both standard trim and a Limited Edition. In anticipation of the release I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the Limited Collector’s Edition of the first Rainbow Six Vegas to get an idea of what the new release might be like.

As you can see from the pictures the Limited Collector’s Edition was fairly standard fare with a standard 2 disc snap case inside a cardboard slip cover. What was nice was that the slip cover had a shiny reflective finish over it and the package also included a 48 hour Xbox Live trial card with the game art on it.
The bonus disc had a lot of nice behind the scenes content but it was unfortunately in a DVD Movie format which means two things: 1. 480p resolutions on all the videos which really diminishes the presentation quality and 2. no chance for bonus in game content or other things like gamer pictures or dashboard themes. The one thing Ubisoft did do right was make this version of the game actually limited in production. It’s quite a difficult edition to find and beyond what’s included that’s what really makes releases like this special.
Here’s hoping that for R6V2 we’ll get a steelbook case and a 2nd game disc with bonus content as opposed to just a DVD movie.

My man in the PAL region Grim picked up his copy of the Devil May Cry 4 Collector’s Edition today, snapped some photos and sent them to me to share here. Contrary to my previous assumption it would seem that while the PAL region did get completely different case art they also only got one disc and a paperback art book.

While I was at the store picking up my Devil May Cry 4 Collector’s Edition I pre-ordered several other new games including Condemned 2: Bloodshot and Turning Point: Fall of Liberty Collector’s Edition, among a few other titles. In any case it would appear that my Gamestop received their pre-order bonus content in early for both Condemned and Turning point as I was treated to some items for those games.
While Condemned 2: Bloodshot wont be coming in any special trim (shame really) Gamestop’s pre-order bonus is a “Limited Edition Multiplayer Handbook”. This handbook is limited in the same way fun-sized candy bars are actually fun. Regardless, the book features nice glossy print and some game art accompanying the “strategy”; it gives me something interesting to read about the game while I wait for it’s release. Far be it from me to look a gift horse in the mouth.

I was actually quite surprised with what I got for Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. A large sealed envelope with the games name on it. I liked the idea of the envelope, like a top-secret document of sorts. Though it’s presentation was rather cheesy, the contents of the envelope impressed me immensely. Inside was a “welcome to the resistance” letter, a letter sized lithography with some game art on it, five high quality post cards with some really nice game art, a large fold out two sided poster with an alternative history timeline explaining the games back story on one side and some more game art on the other, a bonus DVD with a behind the scenes/making of documentary, and a card with a code on it that will presumably unlock some bonus game content. I was really quite impressed considering that all of this was essentially free just for agreeing to purchase the game. The game is a Collector’s Edition too, and one that will only cost and extra $5 over the retail price of the regular edition. The game seems interesting enough but I’m curious if the bonus content with the game will match that of the pre-order pack.

I think the pre-order pack for Turning Point does a lot to really bring you into the game’s world. If this is a game you’re thinking about buying you owe it to yourself to pre-order it and get one of these packages, it’s well worth it.

I picked up my NTSC copy of Devil May Cry 4 Collector’s Edition for Xbox 360 today. Since it was a pre-order through Gamestop I also received a nice art book as a bonus. Unfortunately I was not one of the lucky ones who got an autographed copy.

Overall I must say I’m a bit disappointed with it. It’s your basic steel book case with an extra DVDs worth of content, and then the first disc of the animated series comes in a bi-fold cardboard slip cover that is simply shoved under main cases plastic slip cover. Had this been priced at the normal $69.99 for a CE I would say it’s above average but they charged a whole extra $20 over the regular edition. I realize they consider the Anime disc worth $25 but anyone who shops around could find it new for under $15 and that’s with a full real case. As usual the nice artbook thrown in by Gamestop made the bonus price pill a little easier to swallow but I would have received that even if I pre-ordered the regular version and unlike Assassin’s Creed the DMC4 case really doesn’t give me any place to put the Anime DVD or the artbook.
The PS3 version of the CE is essentially the same, and I suspect the PAL versions are also similar but with different case art and without the Anime disc.
If anyone has an autographed copy of the game, for either 360 or PS3 and is willing to part with it please let me know, in the mean time I’ll be watching eBay. I wont pay an astronomical price for it but I think it would be nice to have pictures of one for CEO here and I wouldn’t mind having it in my collection.
