The highly anticipated Battlefield: Bad Company Gold edition arrived in stores today for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in both North America and Europe.
The Gold Edition includes 5 in-game weapons, one per kit, each with its own characteristics. Really these are nothing more than weapons that would otherwise be unlocked at 25 simply unlocked right from the beginning.
Also on the disc is a behind the scenes “making of” documentary and eight multi-player strategy videos. In addition to the special game disc there is also a Battlefield: Bad Company poster.
North Americans get a standard keep case with a shiny cardboard slip cover, meanwhile European Gamers are treated to a SteelBook case for their Gold Edition. Check out the lined pages below for pictures and additional info.

The good people at Scanavo, (one of the companies behind SteelBook). Were kind enough to send me another package filled with samples of new SteelBooks. This is the second of such packages you may remember the post about the first of such packages I received. Most of the cases this time were for DVD video releases however there was one very special PS3 case thrown in. I made my feelings known the last time I posted about the SteelBook cases, this time I’m simply going to let the cases speak for themselves…
Transformers Autobots and Decepticons:
Dragon Ball Z:
Battle Star Galactica:
This one is rather interesting since it shows off the ability for SteelBooks to hold as many as 6 discs.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition Blu-Ray Disc:
I’m not entirely sure which (if any) region this case was intended for but it is unlike the Limited edition bonus disc packaging I’ve seen for the US, UK, and European version of the MGS4 LE. One thing is for sure though, it’s dead sexy.

If you purchased the NTSC Collector’s Edition of Devil May Cry 4 for Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 you know that it came with the first volume of the Animated Series, published by ADV Films. If you followed the release of this collectors edition you’d know that the reason for the extra $20 over the regular edition was due to the fact that it included this disc.
What you may not have realized is that on page 34 of the Instruction Manual included with the game is an offer for a full sized case to accompany your Animated Series Volume 1 disc. The reason they didn’t include the case with the game was that the cases apparently weren’t ready when the game was getting produced, so they opted for a cheaper cardboard wallet with the option to upgrade once the REAL cases were available later. In addition to the case gamers were also to receive a coupon good towards the purchase of Volume 2 as thank you for putting up with the crappy cardboard wallet.
If you read page 34 of the disc they don’t give you a form to fill out or some postcard to send in. Instead they instruct you to visit ADV Films’ website and find a forum to fill out to redeem your case. Unfortunately there is no forum on their website, nor is there mention of the Devil May Cry animated series AT ALL. Even visiting the url for the Devil May Cry TV website, which is listed on the game packaging in several locations turns up empty pages.
Apparently the Devil May Cry series was under threat of getting canceled, and because of that ADV pulled all mention of the series from their website before the Game or the Anime’s release. The dedicated page for the Series is still up, but it’s little more than a “coming soon” placeholder.
Despite the fate of the series coming into question everything was worked out and Volume 2 was delayed a bit. If you want further proof that everything is worked out just walk into any store where Anime is sold and you should see Volume 2 sitting happily on the shelf waiting for your dollars. That is if it isn’t already sold out. See, to make matters even more interesting the Devil May Cry Animated Series has so far been the best selling Anime of 2008 despite all of the licensing issues and the fact that ADV Films is pretending that they have nothing to do with it, no advertising, and no mention of it on their website, it still managed to sell better than anything else on the market, and then of course in response to the overwhelming support for the series they decide to take a dump on their loyal customers … and Anime publishers wonder why they have trouble turning profits.
Back in February I signed up for ADV’s mailing list and I also emailed them asking about the forum to sign up for the case, this is the response I received:
Hello,
Thank you for emailing ADV, currently our site is under construction. We will have a place for you to input your information and submit your shipping for the Devil May Cry box shortly. With this box we will include a coupon code for you to use on our site towards the purchase of volume 2. We are sorry for the delay and appreciate your
patience in this matter.
Thank you again,
ADV Customer Service
It has now been two months since I received that email, ADV has ignored further inquiries and Volume 2 has already been released. I’ve been doing freelance web development for over a decade, I do it in my spare time and I’m by no means a pro, in a single afternoon I could easily whip up a professional looking form that collects, verifies sanitizes and saves shipping info to a database, heck there are dozens of free pre-written scripts out there that do just that already. There’s no reason that ADV couldn’t have something up TODAY to start making things right.
I propose that if you bought the Collector’s Edition game, that you boycott the purchase of Volume 2 until ADV Films makes good on their promise of a case for Volume 1. It was shady of them to not include the case with the game in the first place, it was shady of them to hide the redemption offer in the instruction manual, it was shady of them to not have any mention on their website about it, and it’s shady of them to ignore a majority of the emails they’ve received on the subject hiding behind a supposed website redesign as an excuse.
We’ve been patient, but if they can’t so much as make a press-release apologizing for this situation then this company obviously isn’t deserving of your money.

Listings have popped up recently for a Collector’s Edition of Namco’s upcoming and highly anticipated Soul Calibur IV. The Collector’s edition includes a Tin which includes a XL sized T-shirt, an Artbook, and a tournament card.
The release date is set at July 29th, for a rather steep price of about $80. EB Games and Gamestop are also offering a keychain as a pre-order bonus.
It’s worth noting that the T-shirt included with the Xbox 360 version will be white and feature Yoda, while the shirt included with the PS3 version will be black and feature Darth Vader.

Gamestop has finally added a listing to their website for the upcoming Fallout 3 Collector’s Edition for Xbox 360 and PS3. With it they have also released details as to what is included and it looks like it could be one of the nicer Collector’s Editions released this generation.
Included are the following:
- Vault Boy Bobble Head: Enjoy your very own Vault Boy with this collector’s item direct from Vault-Tec.
The Art of Fallout 3: This hardcover book features nearly 100 pages of never-before seen concept art and commentary from Bethesda Game Studios artists.
- The Making of Fallout 3: Get an exclusive inside look at Bethesda Game Studios and the team behind the game with this special DVD.
- Vault-Tec Lunch box: The entire package comes in a fully customized metal lunchbox.
If you’re wondering what the bobble head and lunch box might look like read the lunch box of happiness, an article Kotaku posted early last July about a preview package they received with some Fallout 3 swag. In it was a Vault Boy Bobble Head as well as a metal lunch box.

Those who put down a reservation for Metal Gear Solid 4 at Gamestop and EB Game locations in the USA and Canada between April 5th and April 10th receive this slick DVD bonus.
Inside the clear plastic keep case with metallic artwork is a copy of Metal Gear Saga Volume 2. Also in the case is a piece of paper describing instructions as to how and when you can download the Online Beta for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
The Beta will apparently be available for download on April 17th, but it will not be playable until April 21st and it will continue until May 5th when both the download and gameplay will be taken off-line.
Personal Note: Since I don’t actually own a PS3 this code is rather useless to me, I’m debating auctioning it off to help support Collector’s Edition, though it would seem that the whole saga disc and code are only fetching about $30.

Recent additions to the Upcoming North American Release List include:
Call of Duty 4 Game of the Year Edition – released two days ago for the Xbox 360 and arriving on the 23rd of this month on the PS3, this version of the game is identical to the regular edition but includes a code that can be used on the COD4 website which will then give you a code to download the recently released map pack on either Xbox Live Market Place or the Playstation Network Store. Price wise you basically save $5 over buying the game and the maps separate.
Madden NFL 2009 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition – the 20th Madden game released in so many years. This Edition seems steeply priced at close to $90 but it comes with 2 games, both Madden 09 and Head Coach 09, as well as a “library” of bonus videos. If past Madden “editions” are any indication this will come in a standard plastic keep case and will probably drop in value substantially only a month or two after it’s release. Available for both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on August 12th.
Saints Row 2 Collector’s Edition – No details have been revealed about this edition but it will run you an extra $20 over the regular edition (so it better be good). Arrives on both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on August 26th.
