So I picked up my Pre-Order of Splinter Cell Conviction Collector’s Edition last night. The Clerk recognized me and already knew what I was there for; starting to fetch my game before I even had a chance to respond to his greeting. He asked to make sure I knew the included USB cards were known to be faulty, informing me that he canceled his own pre-order because of it. I told him I didn’t really care, I don’t think I’ve ever used an included USB stick in the past.
So I picked up my Pre-Order of God of War III Ultimate Edition last night, there were a few stacked on the counter behind the register and one of the clerks tried to get me to give-up my pre-order, lamenting that he neglected to order one for himself. Apparently they only got in 7 of this edition, and that only covered the pre-orders that had been placed. Already this sounds good to me because rarity makes these CEs appreciate, unlike bin-fillers that flooded the market such as the Halo 3 Legendary Edition.
Once again we see special edition content being sold separately, this week it’s the God of War III soundtrack. One of the biggest features of the Ultimate edition in North America as well as the Trilogy Edition in Europe is the fact that the game includes a heavy metal soundtrack by well known bands inspired by and specifically for God of War III.
Not content with having these be exclusive to the buyers paying a premium for the CE releases the Soundtrack is available for purchase right now for about $6. Of course right now you can only buy the 6-track EP which is significantly shorter than the full length album that comes with the CE, but content is content. At least European collectors get their money’s worth with the inclusion of the first two God of War games. Then again the “God of War Collection” hasn’t been released in Europe and I’ve been enjoying my copy here in the US for some time now.
Here’s hoping Pandoras Box is as pretty in person as it looks in the pictures.
Recently Edios announced that Europe will be getting a Game of the Year edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum, while there’s nothing special about the packaging it does include some DLC content the real interesting part is that it will include a pair of 3D glasses and you will be able to play the game in 3D on both your HD or SD TV.
The GOTY edition will be available for Xbox 360 and PS3 in Europe on March 26th at a price of £39.99
The Final Fantasy XIII Super Elite console bundle hasn’t even been released yet and already they’ve announced the next one. The Upcoming Splinter Cell Conviction will be getting it’s own “Special Edition” console bundle that like other Super Elites will include a 250GB hard drive and a 2nd wireless controller, as well as a copy of the game.
Unfortunately there will be no special case art, simply black plastic like the normal edition, also disappointing is that the console will include the regular edition of the game rather than the Collector’s Edition that is also slated for release.
This bundle will be released along side the regular and collectors edition of the game on April 13th, at a price of $399, which is a pretty good deal when you consider it will include a $60 game, a $60 controller and an extra 130GB worth of hard drive space over the regular $299 Elite console.
Those who pre-ordered their Heavy Rain CE though HMV might want to hold off on redeaming their bonus content codes though the Playstation Store. Maven on our forums reported receiving this email:
Thanks for pre-ordering Heavy Rain Special Edition.
Sony have reported to us that there has unfortunately been a last-minute technical delay to the Heavy Rain official soundtrack, meaning that customers who have purchased the Heavy Rain Special Edition will not be able to download the Soundtrack until 4th March 2010. Sony recommend that you wait until this date to redeem your Special Edition voucher code which is in the game box – you’ll then receive all the Special Edition content in one batch.
However, if you choose to redeem your voucher code immediately for the other downloadable content, you won’t be able to receive the official soundtrack nor will you be able to use the same code to redeem the soundtrack on 4th March 2010. Therefore, you’ll need the following code to enable you to download the soundtrack from 4th March 2010.
So there you have it, if you use the code before March 4th you’ll miss out on some of the content, they’re not really clear on what method of recourse you have if you’ve already used your code. If you’re one of the people who already used the code and missed out let us know.
Kotaku reports that when viewing the posters included with the Bioshock 2 SE with a black light hidden messages appear.
A 2K forum poster holding a random blacklight session with his friends discovered scrawled secret messages on the three BioShock 2 posters that were packed in his special edition. Creepy!
As proof, another 2K forum-goer posted these images, along with a video that can be found at PhotoBucket.
IGN just posted up some footage from Alan Wake, while not uncommon to see pre-release footage, the interesting thing here is it’s from the bonus content that will be included with the Limited Edition.
Recently Gamestop updated their listing for the US release of Heavy Rain stating that the Pre-Order bonus code to download first chapter of the Heavy Rain Chronicles, The Taxidermist would be delayed.
Due to a delay by the publisher, this content will not be available for download until Thursday, March 4, 2010.
Its not clear if the content codes will still be distributed normally but not be available for download until a later date, or if buyers will have to go back to the store to pick them up after the fact.
According to an article on VG247, this delay does not effect European gamers who purchase the Collector’s Edition though HMV.
“Anyone who has pre-ordered, or buys the special edition from HMV, will be able to download it from day one as promised,” a Sony rep told us.
“Other European territories gave the first Chronicle away via other means, and they will also get it day one.”
For anyone who hasn’t pre-ordered or won’t be getting the special edition, a date for the public PSN release of Chronicles’ initial episode is yet to be decided.
