Thank you to everyone who wrote in to tell us about the leaked Collector’s Edition of Aliens: Colonial Marines. French Gaming site Gamekyo broke the announcement.

The graphic above clearly shows that the CE will come in a nice looking display box along with a statue of the iconic power loader along with some in-game content. It’s unclear which region the CE is slated for, though considering the game has already been released in North America (correction: it was scheduled for release in November but pushed back) and the leak occurred in France I would venture a guess that this will be at very least a UK release, possibly all of Europe. I would suspect we will get more details including pricing once it gets closer to the ambiguous “Spring 2012″ release date.

Apparently GearBox is planning to offer a Collector’s Edition for their upcoming game Borderlands 2 (due out sometime in 2012). Not only are they planning to offer a CE they’ve asked the community to help them decide what to include!
You can send them your ideas on the official GearBox forum.
Me personally I told them I don’t care what they include for bonuses as long as the packaging is high quality. I figure I spend more time looking at it sitting on the shelf than anything else, so it might as well be worth looking at.
… although an RC claptrap would be pretty cool…

Tweeted by French site Gameinmotion, are supporting pictures of what may exist in the near future as a compilation for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy.
Based on the title of the package and interior of the steelbook case, it will most likely be packaged with the 3 Modern Warfare games in the series. As this is not (yet) announced officially by Activision, it can be treated as a rumor with a good possibility of coming true.
Obviously there are no official details released for this and it can only be assumed that these will be released for the console (Xbox360 & PS3) and PC platforms. And there’s a good chance this will be a worldwide release also.
But for now, just drool all over these glorious pictures:
Shiny Steelbook with embossed ‘Call of Duty’ title

Pictures indicate this will house Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2 & Modern Warfare 3 games

2011 prints can be found inside the cover*
*[Note: Although a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Collection is already in existence, that particular package contains two CoD: MW games in two separate standard game cases released in 2010. This '2011' edition will be packaged in one steelbook case instead.]
All credits go to Matrix6 for writing and pointing out!

If you haven’t noticed the 25th Anniversary Limited Edition of Super Mario All-Stars sold-out almost as soon as it hit store shelves. The edition that originally fetched $30 new is currently going for around $80 on the 2nd hand market. If you’re a collector and you didn’t pick one up, well it seems you made a mistake.

There is some hope though Wired.com is reporting that due to the overwhelming demand that Nintendo is considering a reprint of sorts. No word on whether they’re simply going to print more of the 25th Anniversary Edition or produce a different release altogether.
Nintendo public relations director Marc Franklin told Wired.com via email on Friday: “We are gratified by the consumer response to this limited-edition product, which we created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game on NES, because of the strong response, we are exploring the option of bringing this item back at a later date. … Until that decision is made, consumers should check with retailers, as supplies will vary by store.”

Onisha sent us a tip that the official Killzone 3 website briefly had more than one edition listed for Killzone 3.

The images and descriptive text for all 3 versions of the game were identical, most likely placeholders. They’ve since disappeared however the “SELECT YOUR EDITION” title image still remains on the pre-order page. Killzone 3 is Scheduled for release on February 22nd, 2011.

Gamestop recently posted up a listing for a Borderlands Game of the Year Edition Strategy Guide with a release date of September 9th. Soon after CVG posted up this information the link was removed. Kotaku contacted Gearbox for more information and simply received a “no comment” response.
The listing for the guide supposedly made mention of including strategy for the 3 DLC packs so its most likely that any Game of the Year Edition release will simply pack in all the additional content with the original game.

Rumors have been floating around the internet about an even better CE release of Gran Turismo 5 than the one previously announced by Sony. These originated from an interview on Indian Video Gamer where Atindriya Bose (country manager for Sony Computer Entertainment India) stated:
For GT5, there are two collector’s editions. One is the game plus some added content and collectibles, which (has already been announced), while the other is in a really big package with a lot of paraphernalia that goes beyond the game. It’s all car-related, but I’m unaware of the exact contents. That being so expensive, we may not directly order it from Europe, but we could bring in limited quantities from Sony in the Middle East. We’ll also be working with Mercedes in some way around the GT5 launch, but we’re yet to decide the specifics of that.
To lend credence to this news Amazon’s French site recently put up a listing for an “Ultimate Edition” of the game in addition to the Collector’s Edition that was previously announced. Sadly aside from a name and release date it is devoid of details.
